I am considering making an iron warriors army but want to add a detachment of night lords for the leadership debuff. I was thinking a pretty shooty IW army and a couple squads of raptors for close combat. I also wanted to keep some of the fluff though so would this work and does the comp make sense?

Sure, Night Lords as a vanguard force, while the IW secure the perimeters. There's no precedence for it exclusively, but I imagine their talents would both compliment each other. Just imagine the terror tactics employed on the enemy moments before a siege. The screaming vox scrambling. The bloody walls. The preliminary bombardments that leave the planet in artificial night. Night Lords live for that.

My own NL force is a mix of Havocs and Raptors. IW would fit the bill for static shooty alot better, but I already spread out so many Bat ear helmets and shoulde rpads for them all...

My Iron Warriors basically own all the vehicles in my chaos Arsenal. Someone here nicknamed it "Papa Honsul's Discount Rentals" or something.

EDIT: (hit enter by accident) Basically my Chaos Armies are always a mixed menagerie of different warbands. Possessed are Word Bearers. Raptors are Night Lords, Cult troops are from their respective legions, etc.

In my opinion lists like yours are the most fun to look at. I have full Night Lords, large spread of Emperors Children, and two squads of white and blue World Eaters with Dark Apostle, Exalted Champion and two rhinos myself.

The Night Lords were my first army so I have the most of them. Lately I've been playing EC and filling in empty spots with them. The last time I was at the store a guy commented on lightning clad power armour mixed into the EC. I said, "They're Night Lords! They're sell-swords!" To me it is so fluffy and cooler to look at than a monochrome spread. And like your IW, my Night Lords lease out 3 Predator tanks frequently. I have read the omnibus and it reminds me when they get hired out by Huron Blackheart. They did the absolute minimum of their requirements and bounced. When I look at them on the tabletop, I imagine a similar plan going through all of their heads. "Alright, once we take objectives 2 and 5 all we gotta do is hold it for an hour and then feth it we're leaving"

The primary benefit is that a lot of the vehicles are easy to paint. I just take a wall brush and drybrush everything gun metal, then pick out details in gold, black and hazard stripes. It also lets me try out some new techinques..

The downside is that I ended up making my raptors look like ultramarines (Nightlord color scheme is VERY Close to Ultramarines if you're not careful.)
