I have Typhus and a Chaos Lord in my army. Can i choose the Chaos lord to be my warlord and give him the Arch contaminator trait?

Any model can be warlord.
Any CHARACTER can generate a warlord trait.

No typhus (or indeed even mortarion ) does not have a rule forcing him to be warlord.

Yes, you can pick any model to be your warlord, and if it is a CHARACTER it can pick a trait.

So I could make my Chaos Bastion Warlord?

RaW yes you can, but all tournament rule-sets disallow it and it's generally considered a dick move.

"Once you have mustered your army, nominate one of your models to be your Warlord." There is no requirement for it to be a non-Building, you can make anything from a Lowly Conscript to a Baneblade to a Aegis Defense line your warlord.

I'm glad this hasn't changed. One of my concepts for my imperial guard is to do it reverse timeline;

When it is a small collection (now) it represents the veteran survivors of a once full company.

Going forward in real time, as I grow my collection, the models will represent earlier (and more numerous) versions of themselves, before their numbers were whittled down through their battles (so going backwards in the model's timeline).

At the very start (or the very end of the models' personal timeline!) I want to have my ogryn bonehead as the warlord (maybe he was the only one left with any kind of rank, or perhaps the previous officer gave him brief charge, but died so the bone'ead kept leadership). OF course he will be companied by a commissar advisor though.

Actually, I don't think NOVA disallows it. I also don't know anyone who would consider it a dick move.

"General Bunker McBunkerface sir! The enemy approach, what should we do? Sir? S... sir?"

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Now just couple it with "I am Alpharius" and imagine secret messages coming out of the walls!

Making a bastion your warlord is foolish when you can make a defence line your warlord and have it became a price of terrain that has no w stat so can't be killed

In addition to the defence line thing, this also leads to Sporelord shenanigans, where a tyranid spore mine is made the warlord.
...Furthermore, Spore Mines are discounted for the purposes of any victory conditions – their destruction never awards victory points...

Better yet, Mucolid spore as a warlord.

Deny Slay the Warlord. Yes.
