Is there any word of official rules for these in this edition?

I think there would be many people interested in these and they have been previously covered by chapter approved.

Perhaps we could see some new mini's for them?

Currently no.

But there is supposedly a "big not quite tau" release next year, so maybe that's auxiliaries, guevesa may or may not be included.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

There has been a trend recently of making new units by using existing kits in a different way.. It's not impossible that Gue'vesa could return. Doesn't seem very likely.

I wouldn't expect it. There might be a caveat in the T'au Empire book allowing for them to ally in a Guard Detachment or something like that.

The only rules for a long time have been IA3 and that unit is explicitly only for use in that campaign.

I could easily see FW putting out some rules in their next Tau book, when they get around to it. Until then, I would be fine with someone bringing a Guard detachment with their Tau army, although I would put some restrictions against commissars, priests, techpriests and such. Basically anything unlikely to turn traitor would not be allowed.

Conscripts are not nearly as good without Commissars though, which Gue'vesa don't have. The traitors are mainly PDF and work gangs, so would be pretty limited when it comes to armour, artillery and good officers.

The traitors weren't even "mainly" PDF. You had some PDF get in there, but it was rank and file PDF not officers. You had work gangs and Ogryn laborers that came into it as well.
The Guard Regiments that got captured during Taros ended up getting sent to work camps to work unto death since they wouldn't y'know, turn.

Anyways, you don't need Commissars to have that happen:
Valhallan Regimental
Platoon or Company Commander with Pietrov's Mark 45 Pistol
Conscripts

Pietrov's literally turns an Officer into a Commissar. Only requirement is to be Valhallan and to purchase a Bolt Pistol first.
And if you lose the guy with Pietrov's well, you already are halving the number of models that fled if you fail a Morale test.

They don't need to "turn" traitor. Commissars existed in the Renegades & Heretics list as "Enforcers". Priests could be espousing the Greater Good, yadda yadda yadda.

Ideally if they're going to actually do Gue'vasa, it would be as an actual unit choice and be heavily restricted like the Neophytes are for Genestealer Cults.

I could imagine Gue'vesa and Genestealer Cults both being their own regimental doctrines.

They could but the last two times they put Gue'vesa rules to print they were restricted to only being used in a single campaign so I wouldn't expect rules any time soon.

I would just give some IG guardsmen your leftover guns and run them as tau units instead. Stats wise they're close enough and you could explain away the worse combat skill as them being couch potatoes.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Last time they had Chapter Approved rules. They were basically humans with lasguns (6-12 models) that could take a few pulse type guns. It wouldn't surprise me if they added rules for them, it is simple to add them and you can nicely convert them and they are fluffy.
