Got suggestions for a flying stand and base? Would 2 clear straws work? Any critiqe on the model?

Hell of a start! Finishing details are what tips good Ork builds into great ones.
Rivvits, lots.
Glyphs, trophies and doo-dads, sprinkle liberally.
Watered down white glue on the balloon body will solidify the sheets.
As for how to suspend it, a chain glued solid dragging an anchor would be my suggestion.
Keep it up and post pics!

Got a suggestion on how to do the rivets? Ideally something simple, the whole point of this project is that it's cheap and easy to make. And by chain glued solid do you mean an actual chain? And what glue would you recommend for glueing it solid?

Million options for rivets, going with the paper option you're on I'd:
Cut paper into a thin strip, cut strip into tiny squares, use tiny square rivets.
Quarter machine jewelry has small chain. I've used that as decorations before. Glue each link in place with super glue. Not sure how that would do for holding it up though. Doing the watered down PVA on the strings could give them enough rigidity to support the balloon. If not, adding support rods would be necessary. Coffee stir sticks (the wooden kind) are great for Ork builds.

That looks awesome!
For a base and stand, the two clear straws would work fine, but they might be a little bit weak.
Rivets are an important next step, along with a few glyphs and things. I really hope you post some more pictures later.

I don't think I will be adding rivets. Don't feel like putting in the extra time and, belive it or not, orks are capable of welding. The base and stand will be added later, it will be strung up in a display case for now. For now I'll just paint it, and if I like how it turns out I'll add some extra stuff like rope, anchor, wheel and a big gun.

For future reference, the easiest way to rivet is a plasticard rods and an Exacto. Cut them off and use the tip of the Exacto to put into place.

you could use the rivet mould from greenstuff world. Works really good. Have a look here: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/textured-molds/348-2x-rivets-rubber-molds.html

Otherwise very good start indeed

Turns out I will be putting some extra work into it after all. I won some bits in a giveaway by STUDIOLEVEL and they might prove useful. The painting will be delayed however, my airbrush broke today and its beyond repair
