I'm going to a 650 point tournament this year and have truly decided to heap on the cheese! Do not fear however, this list is exclusively for the tournament, and a few warm up matches with friends who will be warned in advance.

Imperial guard. Mordia

Patrol detachment.

Company commander, laspistol, chainsword, kurovs Aquila- 30

Infantry squad- 40

Astropath, telepathica stave- 15
Astropath, telepathica stave- 15

Super-heavy auxilary detachment

Stormlord, 2 heavy bolter sponsons, twin heavy bolter, Vulcan mega bolter, 2x heavy stubbers, 15x storm bolters- 550

Plan is to shoot the stormlord right down the centre of the board with the astropaths advancing behind, casting nightshroud and psychic barrier and then unload everything late game for objectives. Warlord trait is grand strategist for the extra command points so I can use crush them! and defensive gunners. Overwatch at full BS?

Please leave any tips for how to improve this, I have only just started tournament playing and help would be much appreciated,

Any lists that would be able to survive long enough to mess with objectives? or tie you up in combat?

Tying up in combat shouldn't be a problem, I can shoot from combat or fall back and still shoot. Only lists I can see giving me trouble are knights (optimised towards killing things like this), or rhino/razorback/russ spam, not for the damage they can do but for the weakness of this against t7/8. What are your thoughts on the regiment? Better as catachan, or Cadian, or tallarn? Thanks for the feedback!

A stormlord can only have a single additional stormbolter.

Does this not apply to it, or is it something else, sorry don't have my codex to hand

Nah, stormlord doesn't have access to the vehicle equipment list. It has a simple "can take a stormbolter" entry.

You don't get the Mordian doctrine bonus on the Stormlord unless it's in a supreme command or super heavy detachment. Super heavy auxiliary is specifically excluded. Regimental Doctrines Pg 132

Tabled all 3 of my opponents well within the time limit. I actually ended up feeling slightly guilty because my first game was against 90 ork boys with a warboss, but yeah, thats how the world is

This is what happens at 650pts, no one should have been surprised. Don\t feel bad either - the tourney admin should have ruled Superheavies out if they didn't want anyone to being one.

I faced a shadowsword in a game and somehow won! Because of my transport capacity i got first turn, slapped old grudges on my warlord and crippled the shadowsword. That plus nightshroud meant he was hitting on 5's and failed to kill me. Killed it next turn and went to clear up

Wellp, and this is why under 1000pts one should not get access to something super heavy....

Congratulations, you're now labelled as "that guy" in your local gaming community. Hopefully tournament admins learned their lesson.

Yeah, at a 1k tournament I attended we had a restriction of single detachment patrol only. IG still won but at least it wasn't a complete waffle stomping

Sounds like an absolutely terrible time was had by all
