Hey guys, I've only recently started playing 40k in 8th edition and wanted to figure out which weapons were good against what. So I made this calculator.
There are 2 versions, the simple and advanced one. They only work for ranged combat so far, but I might add melee eventually.

It takes in the stats of the attacker and their weapon and the target, and calculates the average number of wounds.

The Simple one uses:
  • Attacking weapon strength

  • Target Toughness

  • Average number of attacks (Eg: D6 = 3.5)

  • Ballistic Skill of attacker

  • Target armour save

  • Attacking weapon AP

  • Average damage

  • (I used Desmos because it was easy, just ignore the whole graph part)

    The Advanced one additionally uses:
  • Rerolling failed hits and/or wounds (You can choose up to which value gets rerolled, Eg: 2 means 1's and 2's get rerolled, 6 means all failed are rerolled, etc...

  • Target feel no pain or equivalent (like death guard's disgustingly resilient)

  • Target invulnerable saves (it will automatically choose either armour or invulnerable depending on which will offer more protection given the attacker's AP)

  • (This one's more cluttered than the simple calculator, sorry!)

You can see all the calculations it makes and how it works. It only uses normal math functions and it seems to work pretty well. Please let me know if there's an error I missed or forgot to fix!
Hopefully it can help you out a bit in choosing troops and wargear for your army.
