Hi guys, its been several years since I last played 40K, I stopped after 5th, but I heard 8th is much better. I've decided to rebuild my old Imperial Guard army. The new list building and force org has me a bit confused, but I think I've figured it out. I've also heard that blob squads are much better now. So without a further to do here is my first army list as I dive back into the GW pool. I'd love to hear some feed back and ideas as I've not yet played a game in 8th, this list is just based off of what I've heard so far of the rules.

The basic idea is the Lord Commissars herd the conscripts towards an objective. Everyone else is in a chimera and can drive around to where they are needed most. Plasma Cannons seem to have gotten awesome and I've always loved the sentinels so I've included a full squad.

I think your list will do fine in some friendly games and seems like fun to play, but i would make some chamges if you want to step it up a level.
So instead of Lord commissars, use regular commissars. Then replace them with 2 more company commanders. Orders are amazing and provide lots of utility. Right now you have 9 things that could be ordered but only 4 orders a turn with the platoon commanders. Next ditch them as well. They suck compared to a company commander who only costs 10 more points but gets another order. Next unless you have a deep love for them, replace every flamer with a plasma gun. They are just better in every way, barring some catachan shenanigans. Also lose the vox casters, since they can pretty much just buy another company commander, which is better and achieves the same result. The 3 heavy flamers on each russ is a huge point sink, consider running just the cannon and a heavy bolter. It will save you a load of points. And those heavy flamers would be much better on scout sentinels, who get a free move before game starts and are cheaper. The plasma cannons on sentinels is dangerous as a gets hot roll just kills you. Also if you break your sentinels and leman russ into individual units, you can field a brigade for a tasty +9 c.p. instead.

Thanks for your advice. I made some changes to my list accordingly ( I also fixed a pretty big goof on my part, I forgot to pay for the load out on the chimeras.) This is now kind of what I'm thinking. I couldn't afford Chimeras for the Infantry squads, so I dropped 4 of them and spent some extra points on a squadron of Basilisks. I also did change to the Brigade sized detachment to take those extra command points. Do "Gets Hot" rules still happen in the standard firing mode for plasma cannons?
