in a long time

it seems like he completely transformed the company giving us great releases, raising the share price of the company by 200 percent among other things

We are going through a new GW renaissance

In terms of pure change, yes he is probably the best. However even with all the good changes we have now, it's still not really what I would call the "golden era". The one I remember gave us the Bitz store, had bi-monthly conversion articles, gave us interviews with the codex writers to dissect their thoughts, and the codex was far less restrictive on what it had (and not just options, the codex would outright state things it would never do now, like saying how a model should be made and what size, giving options while acknowledging that the piece won't really exist but is just there to encourage people to convert, or having designer commentary explain why certain decisions were made right next to the entries).

To be fair, we've been in a pretty bad position for over a decade now. It wasn't exactly a high bar to begin with.

An improvement is an improvement, even if some people don't want to admitt it.

And that one can improve in some things, but remain the same in others, or even get worse, is too a reality that many people reject in favour of a Manichaeist's Black/White vision of GW.

Aye that is true. Which is why I'm looking forward with hope for the first time (in a literal decade).

I really hope that they revive Black Gobbo, especially since they're slowly dipping their toes back into conversions.

A store which sells bits, as opposed to full kits? That would be huge and very welcome. It's ridiculous that a daemon hammer - a singular daemon hammer - costs 7$ on ebay.

He has been a massive success.. I really think GW are in position to go from strength to strength. I think the sky is the limit with their amazing IP. I think the pinnacle of success would come from potentially creating their own cinematic universe.

I'm really hoping someone at GW would consider the idea of entire sprues of weapons specifically to upgrade other sets, like they use to do with Jump packs and Dragon Wings.

If GW begin to cast the parts individually (and not attached to sprues) or on smaller sprues, then selling the parts individually (or as a small sprue with a variety of parts) might be a good idea. Otherwise it's just a waste of materials and effort.

I would totally pay for a sprue with 10 pairs of CCWs. 1 tiny sprue to a clampack for 10-15 bucks, totally worth it.

I'll pay for a Chaos Cultists conversion sprue, like the one Northstar does, but with enough weapons to make a full CC+Pistol squad or Autogun squad.

what about a sprue of just 20 autopistols, CCWs and the special weapon upgrades that is compatable with any infantry squad in GW's range?

I would totally buy two of those and a box of marauders or flagellants for my cultists.

I'll throw in another vote for dedicated upgrade sprues. If they sold all of the various weapons and wargear options on their own sprues they could pretty much put third-party bits manufacturers out of business. Seems like an obvious upsell to me - buy a box of troops for $50 and then a weapons sprue for $10-15 so you can equip them the way you want without having to resort to bits sellers or third-party lines.

Metal was certainly easier in that respect. Resin and plastics you can't just rend it down again. I recall several store managers telling me they had huge stocks of old sprue components from duff packages and the like. It's why if you get misscastings you tend to get GW sending you the whole model it replaced not just the part - because they have to cast up the whole thing and can't do anything but throw away the rest of the sprue anyway.

It's a shame, but honestly I don't expect GW to do bits any more like they used to - heck they used to print out a big annual book with all the parts to be ordered. We might get conversion kits and such; I mean beyond just marine shoulder pads.

On a tangent, but I once had some miscasts from a Dark Vengeance box. GW ended up sending me those exact bitz attached to the sprue....and nothing else on it.

Some employee went and clipped every single bit off of the sprue other than the ones I was missing and then sent me the frames.

I get the feeling he was either having a really bad day, or a really slow day. It was both hilarious and kinda insulting.

Back when whfb was still a thing i got an island of blood with one rat ogre head missing

they ended up sending over just the head. no real biggy and it didnt bother me. but i think it depends on the extent of the feth up. its entirly possible this is specific to starter sets and sell throughs or possibly one of the studio doods conversion or spare parts bin.

GW is not going to make low volume plastic upgrade sprues for random things like Chain Swords. GW would never make their money back. Plastic is just too expensive due to the molds. If they did make it, then it would cost a lot of money per frame, which on one would pay.

Resin and Metal are tailor made for bitz, especially metal. But GW does not want to use metal anymore and resin would probably still be too cost-prohibitive.

It would be less of a problem if their various sets started using shared sprues again.

If he makes them get off their butts and finally actually make and release plastic sisters, I'll be convinced he was the best thing to happen since at least fifth edition.

He's driven a vast improvement, but they have still got a long way to go to get back to their peak.

The best things to have happened for GW all seem to work for someone else now, resulting in some of the best things to happen for the industry as a whole.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it's my impression that this is no longer the case. 15 years ago, having a plastic injection mould made, was really expensive, and GW only had a couple of new moulds made every year. An injection mould would be a huge investment for a company like GW, and they would only make them for the sort of stuff they knew would sell well.

Since then, it seems to me that injection moulding has become cheaper, for reasons I can't explain since I'm not in the industry. It's clearly the case that companies that make toys and model kits, like GW, Perry Miniatures, Renedra and Lego are turning out moulded plastic parts at a rate which would have been unlikely 10-15 years ago.

If injection moulding was still as expensive today, as it was 15 years ago, you wouldn't have seen things like the "Sector Mechanicus Galvanic Servohaulers" or the "Sector Imperialis Objectives", and companies like Renedra wouldn't exist.

PS: It's 3D-printing, clearly. This article claims that if 3D-printing is used to create the moulds, it reduces the cost for making those moulds by as much as 95%:
https://plmgroup.eu/3d-printing-dops-the-tooling-price-for-injection-molding-by-95-percent/

While GW is probably utilising a slightly different process than the one described in the article, they're obviously using 3D-printing. And using 3D-printing to create the moulds is clearly cost-effective, with the added benefits of digital modelling.

Very possibly, someone had the brains to realise that someone else had the same problem with a different part of the sprue, and they just sub-divided the stuff up. That seems remarkably on the ball for the average customer service department, though.
