From a popular culture standpoint, I'm curious who the most famous regular 40k player on Earth is. I remember when I was a kid there was a rumor Tom Hanks was a big Magic the Gathering fan and I've seen somewhere that Vin Diesel was a D & D player, but I've never once heard of somebody well known outside the hobby who gets down on some 40k. I assume Peter Jackson and the cast of Lord of the Rings got in one or two games of the tabletop version just for the sake of playing with tiny models of themselves but that's about as close as I can even guess.

I suppose the YouTube players are contenders, but their tiny bit of celebrity is virtually unknown outside of our own community. I'm talking about someone who is famous for a completely different reason who also happens to be a fan of plastic crack.

Anybody have a true story of the time they took on David Beckham's Necrons while Tom Cruise sent wave after wave of Dark Angel drop pods in to help secure a perimeter on a table in Madonna's garage?

Yeah, I was going to say. Rumor has it that he came into Gamescape a few times, and an employee from (long since closed) Gamescape Palo Alto did some commission painting for him, as he lived here in the bay area.

Man if that's true then I think we have a winner. I bet a game against Robin Williams doing ork voices the whole time would've been absolutely hysterical.

Robin Williams played Eldar, from what an older player in my area said. Saw him playing at one of the now closed stores, even has a picture with him.

Vin Diesel supposedly plays, which I'm not surprised since he's a big D&D fan, and have you seen the gothic imagery in Chronicles of Riddick? No way did someone not connect that dot!

No offense but how can a "confirmed collector" have an unknown army? If you can confirm they collect then you have to know what they collect.

Chris Kluwe, for example, has mentioned that he plays but never mentioned his army.

If you type in "Ansel Elgort warhammer" you'll find an interview where he says he plays and paints 25mm sci-fi miniatures, and actually namedrops "warhammer". He doesn't mention what he collects, but he does make it clear he does collect warhammer models.

Well, I doubt he designed the props/setting.

He was producer as well, so he might have had some input.

I know John Hurt (Alien, V for Vendetta, Hellboy) has mentioned that his sons played. He did some voice over work for a CGI Space Marine movie too.

Gerard Way (lead singer of My Chemical Romance) plays/played Warhammer Fantasy, he talked about it publicly some time ago.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned George R R Martin. I think he's quite publicly a player of minis wargames.

A quick google search revealed this article: https://spikeybits.com/2015/12/the-top-5-celebrities-that-play-warhammer.html

Nothing gets a girl more excited than when Ansel invites her home to look at his Warhammer miniatures.

On a related note, Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper were both really into D&D growing up:

Highly Rumored! But, supposedly Bruce Willis has a massive Imperial Guard collection.

Also, Josh Barnett of UFC MMA fight fame plays 40k. His moniker is "The Warmaster."

Pretty sure Will Smith is confirmed as Warhammer models have appeared in a few of the films he's in - often held by his child in the film itself. Though I can't for the life of me remember which films.

It's no surprise; when you consider that GW isnt paying super-star rates for promotion its no shock that we don't really hear much of their real personal life. And right for it too really as honestly even super-stars deserve to be able to go out and game/hobby without the world watching.

Vin Diesel is clearly a geek at heart - I'm fair sure his Fast and Furious films help pay for the Riddick films

Enemy of The State. The kid is reading White Dwarf towards the end.

WWE wrestler Ember Moon is also a massive D&D nerd, wouldn't surprise me if she plays other tabletop games too.

Actually met Brian at Games Day... I want to say 97? We were in the studio bit right at the end of the day, my buddy actually had chance to speak to him directly and shake his hand, but he understandably wanted to keep moving to avoid getting bogged down, so all I got was a smile and a nod. He was there for his son, so I'm not 100% he plays himself.
