I played a fun campaign with a Genestealer Cult (GSC) force against Flesh Tearers, and I used an Imperial Guard detachment to bulk out my Genestealer force with the flavour of a subverted Regiment. What are the community's thoughts on using the full range of the Imperial Guard in a GSC list?

After the first game I didn't take Commissars, Primaris Psykers, Stormtroopers and Ministorium Priests as it didn't feel right. I figured that the Comissars would have tried to stop the subversion and would have killed in the uprising. The Ministorium Priets etc would have also died rather than submit. The Psykers might have felt the influence of the Patriarch and have been taken out early. The Scions have too much indoctrination to fall for the call of the Patriarch and died in a circle around the Commissar.

Does this match with the fluff?

Primari's psykers could be 4th Gen hybrids. Commissar could be particularly effective 3rd or 4th Gen hybrids that can exert better local control on their brethren. Storm troopers are just well equipped and trained guardsmen. You can hand wave away anything really.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

It's up to you really but your reasoning makes sense, I always find with themed armies it's the limitations you put on your self that makes them, fun and help stop them being broken. For example I had an air cavalry army, so I only took what could be carried in a valk, even though the rules would let me take leman russ , and the armour would have been welcome it just didn't fit in my head.

4th company 3000pts
3rd Navy drop Command 3000pts air cavalry
117th tank company 5500pts
2000pts

Unless I've missed a memo there's no immunity to the Genestealer Kiss, IIRC even in the updated Space Hulk the first mission is to torch some rooms containing infected Techmarines. The only surefire way to avoid corruption is to shoot yourself in the head - anyone gung-ho enough to think they can fight their way out or go out in a blaze of glory risks being incapacitated through injury and subsequently infected rather than killed outright.

Great perspectives guys! I wouldn't impose my fluff on another player, though, its just my own method now.

I see that the new AM FAQ has answered my next question before I even asked it regarding GSC/AM fluff by ruling that AM Brood Brother Detachments cannot take Regimental Doctrines or Special Characters.

Cheers

The commisars and psykers could even be actual commisars and psykers that were lead into places where the patriarch was able to hypnotize them and bring them into the fold.

No human is safe from a genestealer and all it takes is a single locking of eyes and the genestealers implanting their genetic seed and it's all a done deal. There is no office to high to be effected if the cult has grown big enough.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Aye. I'd take that to mean those Special Characters are just too hard for the Patriarch to hypnotize (or so bad-ass that they kill themself rather than be captured) and the doctrines are lost because the indoctrinated soldiers are too mind-addled to use those. But anything else is up for grabs if you can come up with a reason that the Patriarch could put the moves on someone.
