Just thought I would say hello! I am an old time Citadel 80s player and collector. I am hoping to do some buying and trading here for 80s minims. Looks like a great sight! Great...big...sight...lots of looking around to do!

I first started off with the space marine plastic box set. I painted a few random guys for the old traveler role playing game that my friends and I were trying out in the mid 80s. Soon after I started painting up my first legion of marines as the red scorpions after reading up on the Badab war. I saw the design of the special force marines for the red scorpions that were actually red and did my marines kinda similar with an all red amour with black flames highlights. I soon found myself buying the few lead miniatures my local store had... more marines to use as Sgt. and other characters. Then terminators librarians and so on. Shortly after I was buying fantasy minis and was hooked from then on...well till everything got swollen and puffy and swords were made larger than the men welding them...buts that's another story best saved for the 90s....

My true passion in 40k is the old imperial guard. I collected and painted scores of plastic guardsmen, lead command, rough riders, ogryns, ratlings, and support like thud guns, trantulas and the spiffy chicken walkers!

These ended up being in countless battles against the new eldar my friend was painting and finally against the new orks...love those orks!!!!

I am still collecting to this day and have a few thousand in my collection.

I was an avid reader of everything I could get my hands on from warhammer. I loved the old novels...still need a copy of the last in the Konrad series so I can finish the trilogy some...um...30 years later??? The 3 ork rule books were so fun to read and get into the spirit of da ork! My friends and I had moved on from traveler to champions from hero games so we did not get into the fantasy role play....

My first white dwarf was in the 110s..I think 114...I collected to well into the 200s but then I got lost in life and stopped my subscription...

I built alot of military models from Tamiya in the 80s as well. I was a big WW2 fan. I watched with awe the world at war series by the BBC. I still remember how freaked out I was that people were faced with such difficult lives...and here I was building models of war machines while eating fruity pebbles and waiting for gijoe to come on...

Bolt action is my current painting adventure. Working on my Canadians who will face off against the Germans...both from the most excellent plastic box sets from warlord. Then while looking down the model shop isle I discovered Tamiya builds 1/48 models which I love the look of beside the 28mm figures I am building and painting. I read a few discussions on the size differences and so on but have to say if 1/48 is to large then that's awesome as it makes those hulking tanks even more fearfull!!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to Dakka. It's great to see someone who is such a long time fan of the hobby. Good luck finding those 80s minis. I love Warhammer novels too, and have over 100 in my bookcase. Your collection of minis sounds amazing, I'd love to see some pictures of big group shots.
