They're literally getting college administrations to say it's essentially not okay. If I were currently enrolled I'd be asking for the schools guide on proper tanning to avoid whiteness.

As for the OP, of course it's working, because it's a racist thing to say and the people doing it know this perfectly well. I'm sure "4chan is a cesspool with little redeeming value" is a true statement, but I don't know why this subject is considered worthy of a thread.

I think combining 4Chan and 'sign of the times' is a bit too sweeping of a statement to make. Besides the push-back against this was started politically before 4Chan weighed in with its new 'hobby' to waste time on. 4Chan follows the worst crowd, it doesn't tend to lead it.

The mental gymnastics of the perpetually offended is why these things keep appearing. It's pretty entertaining and it attracts clicks, which is why pretty much anything gets put online.

You'll notice no one is dealing with the statement, but instantly certain of the motive behind it. And it's a pretty difficult statement to disagree with, as we haven't seen anyone espouse that it's, indeed, "not okay" to be white.

It's pretty much akin to saying "minimally exceptional" as George Carlin would say. The statement basically says x is satisfactory.

If the posters had said something more controversial like "colonialism is okay" I'd get your point, but it's not anyone's problem if someone projects that on to an innocuous statement. And as 4chan has shown, they'll clearly take the bait.
