So this is coming out next week. Anyone getting one? I'm seeing videos all over youtube for it and it's getting tough to resist. I don't have a 4K TV yet, but plan to get one soon (hoping for some good black friday deals). Well we have one in the living room, but I'm only allowed to play video games in the man cave :( Supposedly you can still get a good boost in quality for regular HD games too though. I've mostly been playing PC games lately, but this is looking mighty tempting.

The gamer in me wants one but the new dad and adult part of me (read: bill paying responsible type) just can't justify it. Especially when I already own an Xbone.

Same here. It’s tough to resist but I think I’m better off waiting till I get a 4K tv. Didn’t ther do the S last Xmas? I wonder if the plan is to have a new one every year?

I've been so far removed from the console market that this thread is the first time I've even heard about a new xbox

So is this a new generation that's compatible with the previous gen, a refresh of the previous gen or some weird mix of the two? It seems like a decent performance boost over the previous Xbone, though similar TFLOPS to a mid ranged gaming video card.

Yeah it's basically an Xbone with updated hardware.. not an all new console. They did a refresh last year with the Xbox One S so I was theorizing that they are gonna just keep the same Xbox OS and keep putting out updated systems every year.

I was planning to try and build a gaming PC as a console killer system, but I can't find a way to do 4K gaming for $500... the video card alone costs more than that. Could get away with it if I were just going for HD though. So it seems like this might be the best bet. Gotta get my 4K TV first though

When it comes to PC gaming if you don't want to spend a lot of money you have to accept that you aren't going to be playing maxed out (but most the time you're still going to get something that looks better than a console title). I'm quite happy on my GTX960, it's fine for 1080p IMO, looking at reviews I reckon an RX 580 or GTX1060 would be fine for 4k gaming if you're willing to dial back the settings a bit.

I imagine at 4k you can probably dial back the AA a bit to regain some performance, unless you also sit really really close to the monitor/TV, lol.

But yeah, overall the new Xbox doesn't look to be terrible value, a 6 TFLOP machine for that price (by comparison, a GTX1070 is about 6.5 TFLOPS.... but of course it depends on the architecture as well). But I always prefer to wait to see what developers do to leverage the hardware before buying in to a new generation.

My problem with PCs is whenever I try to plan out a new build I get distracted by the new shinies and next thing I know I have a $3000 build planned out and no way to afford it. I was able to get something down to around $700, if I include the 1070 I currently have in my PC. I like the idea of having a dedicated gaming PC on my TV, but for now I compromised and got a 25 foot HDMI cable going to my TV. I prefer sofa gaming for RPG / adventure type games that take longer and I play those more often, but don't mind the PC for shooters and diablo style games.. the older I get the less I want to sit at a desk all day at work and then all night at home.

Hoping I can get a good deal on a 4K TV on black friday and put the cash I save toward the XboneX, but I guess I'll try it with my long HDMI cable first and see how I like it
