A buddy and I have forces for Aos and the new 40k edition.
We have played nothing greater than 1000 pt games on a standard table for either game and it typically takes us 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete.
We do talk quite a bit but I'm wondering how anybody manages 2k point games and the like in a reasonable amount of time.
The 1k point games we're playing actually look pretty decent and uncrowded (not skeletal) on the 6 x 4 tables so I wonder how anybody gets 2k worth of stuff on the table.
Clearly we are old, slow and cheap.
What about you?

Around 1k points for me too (I don't use points but they sum up to this number). This model count allows me to collect a multitude of factions instead of one-two big ones. I can play a variety of scenarios, combine the armies as allies etc. For me it is basically a battalion + 2-3 additional units unless I really like the faction models. Did I mention that I don't use points? Now I do again! Take note plebs!

2k points is pretty much the standard at my flgs for casual games. Leagues and such vary but are generally smaller (especially path to glory, for obvious reasons). Depending on the army and player we'll usually hammer out a 2k game in the 2-4 hour range.

Usually they have been 1000pts, but a few times we've played 2000pts.
When listbuilding or army-planning I aim for 2000pts, but most of the time I will probably play with less.

In my experience the bigger games don't take a lot longer then the smaller games as there is usually bigger harder hitting stuff on the table. More monsters, buffed maxed out units etc.
I often play 2500 in 1,5-3 hours depending on the battleplan

Huh. Never thought about it that way.
I think our players would be challenged with that since we've all got infantry centered forces. That's cool. That's one of the things I like about how allies work.
I want very much to collect kharadron, sylvaneth and seraphon to add to my stormcast because I really like several models from those ranges.
Thing is, we don't play AoS very much so I can barely even justify keeping the sigmarines I do own.

Beyond that, usually 2000 if we're feeling rowdy, 1000-1250 for quickies.

Well the first two rounds usually take longer, after that, well everything's dead!

Right now we're in path to glory so its small.
Campaign following starts at 1000 points and moves up depending on resources gained for player empires. It can get up to 2500.

Normally we play 1000 point, since we play 4 man free for all games. More points than that takes too long..

2000 points normally. We'll occasionally roll out the big models like Archaon, Allarielle, Nagash, etc. for a 2500 game, though.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress

Locally 2000 points is very much the standard, as all events etc are that point level.

I play Path of Glory, so i am not really sure what the amount of points is i am playing with
But i do enjoy this type of play more than the standard format of a certain point cost game.

Tiny sized whether using points or not. I don't have the space anymore! Even path to glory can end up being a bit too big.

My pickup games usually run in the 1800 point range, but that's because that's the size of my army. I am working on that as the budget allows, but it's tough. My plan is another Start Collecting box in the coming month to bolster up my forces.

I tend to play 1k because it’s quick and a lot of the big centrepiece models seem to me points inefficient or impractical at this level. It’s also a lot quicker easier to paint 1k worth of models than +2k so starting a new force is much easier.

with us having so few players (2-3) its gotten easy to figure out which groups are balanced to fight who, so just "classic" warscrolls work pretty good

Generally 1000-2000 points. Depends on who's there. I'd say 1500 is most common.
However we do often have 2v2's just so more people can play a game and not spend their time waiting for others to finish.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)
