They aren't in the SM codex, are they an index only unit? Why is this, previously they were in the SM codex, and it's not like GW is gonna retcon TLOTD out of existence after gathering storm.

They were also in the Agents of the Imperium book at the end of 7th, which frankly was a better fit for them. So if they do another “soup” book they could show up again.

Being all finecast, I could see them being on the chopping block. But all it would take would be a single plastic box and they would make a great filler release to stick in a light month somewhere.

I’d not write them off yet, but wouldn’t hold my breath either. Just keep rolling with the index in the mean time.

Having an entire LotD army since 2e, like myself, the lack of coverage isn’t that big of a deal. We still have the index, after all.

Didn't they lose most of their wargear options in the Index?

I find it interesting that the LotD were not in the Sm codex at all. The Codex is supposed to reflect all model options GW currently makes. While the LotD are a very old Sculpt, and only available in FC, that hasn't stopped GW from putting out new rules for other units like that. Eldar Phoenix lords and Chaos Havocs are just a couple examples that come to mind when talking about old models still in FC but got rules in the new codex.

Makes me wonder if GW doesn't have plans to do an updated army list for them with new models.

Given how much they've expanded the Death Guard by giving them their own codex, it wouldn't surprise me if Legion of the Damned didn't get their own book, combined with a couple of new kits too. They've always been very appealing models, first from the old 2nd edition metal models that were basically re-sculpts of the (then) current metal tactical squad (I'm looking at you, one piece flamer model). The current finecast models are gorgeous (I bought a box just for the sergeant to use in my Chaos army, and I'm going to squeeze the other models into the army if I can too), so to see them redone as a ten man squad in plastic would be exceptional.

Even if they appear like Cypher and The Fallen did in the Chaos 'dex, except in a future Imperium book, this would be suitable enough.

The Legion of the Damned unit entry in the 6th and 7th edition Codex Space Marines was really a legacy entry - the "proper" rules were in Codex Legion of the Damned (and Codex Imperial Agents?).

Having said that, some new minis might be on the cards. The current ones were designed when the flames were patterns on the armour. now, all the artwork depicts them as actually being aflame, like Ghost Rider. A new plastic kit with skeletal features and flames wouldn't go amiss. Chuck in some older bits of kit to annoy the old-school players and a hand holding the Animus Malorum while they're at it.

They're one of the new rumoured factions that are being released, full blown release with Ferrus Mannus leading them...

I don't think Phoenix Lords are a good analogy. They've been around forever and are iconic Eldar characters. LotD have been around forever but not nearly iconic or popular.

Hehe! I laughed at that!

I like the look of the LotD and hope they get a new codex with new models. I hope the same for Sisters, while we're wishing!

I once 'fell' for someone telling me Roboute Guilliman having 56 wounds. At least my first reaction was to check the codex, not say, "no he doesn't."

If they did get a codex I can't wait to see what a Legion of the Damned Dreadnought would look like. That thing would be pretty nuts.

It'd be nice to see them as a non-Finecast release, Ive had a LoTD army since the Chapter Approved rules for them in 3rd edition.

My Space Marine friend was quite surprised by the lack of damned legionnaires in the Marine Codex. I mean, they are Space Marines, and they're still being made and sold.

The SM codex seemed like the most logical place for them, but I guess they could add them to some sort of Imperial soup codex later on.

Would be nice. a simple 5-10 man plastic kit then package that with some sort of character and a obligatory recut contemptor dread and you got your self a starter.
