Hello,

I used to be a semi-regular on these boards, but I stopped visiting or posting late in 2010, when life got all kinds of crazy - moved around a lot, shed all my old terrain and most of my miniatures. Now things are much better, so I can think about these things again. Indeed, about a year ago I started to dabble in a game called "This is Not a Test", but had not progressed to the painting phase for the two gangs I'd built for it.

I hadn't really done much serious wargaming since ~2009, as even by then I'd already sold off all of my 40k and Fantasy armies (though in 2010 I picked up some Marines in an attempt to build a chapter - project went nowhere, but turns out I still had these in storage). I had by then already started experimenting with other rulesets and figure scales, which I kept dabbling in for a while, off-and-on. Turns out there's some great, if not so well known, stuff out there. The downside is, getting people to try them out was basically impossible

I'd heard 40k had somewhat recently kicked off 8th (!) edition, so I perused around and decided to pick it back up again - not having actually rolled dice since 4e and not read much about it at all since 5th. A Gloriana- Class Battleship worth of stuff seems to have changed since I last knew anything, enough that much of how I conceive the game mechanically will need to be relearned. Some of the rule changes look good, some not so much. I've decided to once again take up Imperial Guard (sorry, "Astra Militarium"), this time starting with an Armored Company (er, should that be Spearhead Detachment?). Nothing super crazy yet, but in the future I've considered DKOK or some kind of air assault force.

I am looking forward to playing again, as the active community for the game is much larger where I am now. There are better rules out there, but it is better to something decent than to not play the perfect set of rules. Not a clue what kind of activity I'll have back on these boards, but we shall see - it seems more active than the 40k subreddit, anyways. Looking through the Army Lists section I see I have some modifications I need to make to my list, so I may be posting those over here tonight. When I break out all my old paints, I'm likely to share those, too...once I've finally settled on conversion goals and an actual color scheme!

Cheers!

M.

Out-of-the-loop from November 2010 - November 2017 so please excuse my ignorance!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
