Hello all!

My friends and I had some interest in doing the 40K Team Tournament at Adepticon, but befor I rush madly in on the 17th to register, I had some questions for those who are organizing it/ those who have played in it (I emailed these questions to Adepticon last week but have not received a response, which is fine- I'm sure I'm not the only email in their inbox!)

1) you are supposed to create a 4-person team with 1000 points per person. Does this mean that the games are 4000 points per side 4v4, or are the teams broken up to play separately during games?@

2) Our group actually has 5 people coming to Adepticon. Is it ok to rotate players in and out during the event so that everyone gets to play?

3) I have played all of 9 games of 8th edition, 2 of our teammates have played one and two haven't played 40K in many years. Is this event friendly towards the 'don't need/ plan to WAAC' crowd? We just want to have some fun rolling dice.

1) split into two teams of two for each game.

2) Not sure, I don't see a problem but Adepticon would have to confirm it is ok.

3) Played in the team tournament a few years ago under the same circumstances and we had a blast. Didn't win many games but still a great time.

8000pts.
7000pts.
5000pts.
on the way.

2) Not likely. There will likely be teams of 2 and 3 needing people, so I'm betting your 5th wheel could still play. Make sure he gets on the waiting list or emails the AdeptiCon folks.

Also, be sure you are at your computer the second the registration opens. That event will sell out in 5 minutes.

My tournaments are geared towards the friendly, non WAAC, beginner crowd (Gentlemen's, there are two, one Thursday/one Friday). That includes lists being reviewed and leveled to the best of my ability ahead of time, and rental armies if you forget/want to jump in on the action/don't finish your army.

You can keep that in mind when you're registering.

I've went for several years, though I haven't been in the last couple on account of people growing up and being adults (how lame is that? )

1 - they'll dictate pairings for each table for each game. For example, "Brad and Charles" at table 11 and "Brit and John" at table 12. All four of you play against the other four of the other team, but you do it on 2v2 tables with no opportunity to influence the other game. Last game has traditionally been team captain's choice for who's on which table.

2 - I'm virtually 100% certain that's not going to fly. You'd have to ask them though. I'd recommend looking for a partial group and drawing straws for one of you to join up with that group instead.

3 - It's a competitive tournament, but people are pretty relaxed about things. And I say that having my team gone up against the team that took 1st one year, so I've definitely had a taste of the most competitive players there. I think in the four years or so we went, I ran into all of maybe one team that was genuinely not cool, and it was back when they were cramming it all into one day, so they were probably just crabby and tired. I'm sure we were too.

As a recommendation, you should probably familiarize yourself with their rules, as they're much more specific than just "show up with a 1000 point list". Particularly this coming year as they have specific custom detachments you're allowed to take and unit restrictions and special rules on how the team armies can and can't interact. They're still a draft last time I checked, so you might check up on them every couple months and make sure they don't change. You're also expected to have a display board, painted army, and objective markers. Those stipulations are in the general rules usually.

Thanks for all of the responses guys!

Are we allowed to change partners within the Team for the 2v2 matchups or are those fixed?

Fyrblkdragon, we are actually hoping to get into on of your Tournaments as kind of a good intro, so I’m glad you are running those!

You can look up the rules for previous years on their site. pairings are done each round by them, but you should play with each member of your team at least once.

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing you there. I play-tested my mission sets at Dragon-Fall, with some great feedback, so you'll see a full mission pack for mine hopefully by Christmas.

If you have any questions about the Gentleman's, let me know.
