Got married. Now have money. Always wanted them.

506th GIR (Grav-chute Infantry Regiment). Commander and plasma gunner for the commamd squad. Using parts from the FW Cadian range because the original heads are 'orrid.

Head swaps look nice. Looking forward to more. Have you seen Victoria Miniatures range of guard heads? Some nice ones there you could use as well.

Yay, you're back. Congratulations!

Elysians with cadian heads are a good look.

Looking forward to seeing where you go with this.

So, having attempted to use the plastic flying stand that comes with the kit, I quickly realised it was utter garbage. Once glued to the base, mounting the aircraft to said stand made its nose angle upwards (not exactly ideal given its role as a CAS vehicle!).

I did try modifying it so that the nose would dip and give it a more "strafing-run" type of orientation however I binned it in frustration. In my pursuit of finding an alternative, I stumbled across this video on the 'Tube:

[Credit to BuyPainted]

Needless to say I have since purchased a bunch of bicycle wheel spokes from the Bay with a mind to recreating the method in the above video. Hopefully other people will benefit from the tutorial too!

In other news, I finished my first Drop Trooper last night but there are no photos because the lighting was garbage and I want to wait until I have the rest of the squad completed.

Started on the cockpit. Painted an altimeter, fake horizon and a radar sweep. Went for a Russian turquoise interior using the old GW Hawk Turquoise.

Great looking models!

On the subject of the flight stand, you seem to have a strategy, but I never had issues with using the GW flight stand with my Vulture. The trick is to flip it so that the longer cross piece is facing backward.

Pretty nice base idea. I like hpw your elyisans are coming out.

Cheers. Yeah I just abandoned the clear plastic stand, the spokes seem to work really well and are much less obtrusive.

Base is finished. Thought I'd print out some little posters and add them for points of interest.

Almost finished with the bird itself: want to get it and the HQ squad done by the end of the weekend.

Nice looking stuff. I can't wait to see the whole squad and their support craft together.

Thank you. I'm hoping the Vulture will be finished tonight and I can get the HQ squad done over the weekend.

I've been told the angle of the aircraft looks too steep: opinions?

I think you may have forgot to post the pictures of what it looks like on the stand

Yep, I'd agree with them, way too steep, especially as it looks like it has no way to stop itself nose diving the ground.

Looks very nice though, good choice of colour for the cockpit.

I've straightened it out somewhat, sprayed it black and given it a coat of matt varnish. However, disaster struck as I forgot to mask the inside of the cockpit canopy and managed to get paint on it. I then ballsed it up trying to fix it and now need a new canopy... Hobby RAGE ensued.

Anyhoo, I will have to console myself with the HQ squad: got one trooper left to assemble (plasma gunner in an alternative pose = ballache) and four to paint in total.

My attempt at pale skin and red hair (camera has washed out a lot of the detail though).

What to use to simulate tape on a whip-aerial? Why, tape of course!

I've got all the troopers assembled and primed (eventually, the weather has been pish). I've got the scheme down so it should be quite easy to bang these out in short order.

Personally I prefer the original heads as opposed to the Cadian looking ones, they look great, brilliant Paint job on the medic!

Different strokes I suppose! I think the Elysian heads look a bit like they are all mid-poop...

Cheers cmurphy96, I spent a good while dithering and fiddling with the colours. I'm just going to leave it like it is and move on to the rest of the mini now.

Can't decide if I want to do OSL on the plasma weapons or if I should just stick with a good old fashioned scheme instead?

I could only wish to paint half as good as you have done!

Certainly the OSL would be great, although sometimes I think it detracts from the rest of the model.

Certainly whatever you decide to do it would look great.

Thanks all.

@Captain Brown, as I mentioned on your thread, your Elysians are an inspiration for me and I'm chuffed that you're casting an eye over my own force.

Now that my gushing is out of the way, I have finished my commander:
