Rotting Sorcerer of Nurgle

Hello all,

I know I recently posted a list but tonight I read Zeke Sudburies list that took 2nd or 3rd in a recent GT and it got my mind racing. He used a lot of the normal fixin's with Malefic lords, Morty, and what-not, but it got my mind racing with making a new list! I call it "Christmas Tree Chaos" because its Khorne and Nurgle... get it? It works off the Hammer and Anvil idea, but its a not... better than just running Nurgle.

Battalion #1: Chaos Space Marines - Alpha Legion - 3 CP

HQ
Chaos Lord - Mark of Khorne - 74 pts
Chaos Sorcerer w/ Jump Pack - Mark of Tzeentch - Warptime, Death Hex, Force Stave - 120 pts (POST CA CHANGES)

Elites
10x Khorne Berzerkers - Icon of Wrath, all chain axes - 180 pts
10x Khorne Berzerkers - Icon of Wrath, all chain axes - 180 pts

Troops
10x Chaos Cultists - Autoguns - 40 pts
10x Chaos Cultists - Autoguns - 40 pts
10x Chaos Cultists - Autoguns - 40 pts

Battalion #2: Death Guard - 3 CP

HQ
Typhus - Miasma of Pestilence, Putrescent Vitality - 175 pts
Chaos Sorcerer in Terminator Armor- Putrescent Vitality, Blades of Putrefication, Force Staff - 128 pts (POST CA POINTS)

Elites
Noxious Blightbringer - 65 pts
5x Blightlord Terminators - 1x Axe/Bolter, 1x Flail, 2x Plasma/Axe, 1x Reaper AC/Axe - 269 pts

Troops
10x Poxwalkers - 60 pts
10x Poxwalkers - 60 pts
10x Chaos Cultists - Autoguns - 40 pts

Fast Attack
Foetid Bloatdrone - 2x Plaguespitters, Plague probe - 158 pts

Heavy Support
Plagueburst Crawler - 2x Entropy Cannon, Stubber, Mortar - 146 pts
Plagueburst Crawler - 2x Entropy Cannon, Stubber, Mortar - 146 pts

Total: 1921 pts

So I edited the list to make it legal with proper points. I'm not sure who to pick as my Warlord (maybe the DG sorcerer?).

General gameplan:

If I get 1st, Khorne Zerkers do what they do and infiltrate in. The vanilla sorcerer will DS in to cast his spells to get them into position to kill stuff, or help give them easier targets with Death Hex. Their goal is to take out priority targets, or tie up a gunline waiting for help. My chaos lord on that end will try and make his way up there to em (I'm sure I cannot infiltrate him?) Typhus with a tide of traitors and walkers will take up the midfield walking toward objectives. I was unsure if I should just make 20 poxes and 2 units of 10 cultists, wasn't too sure here, but one unit of poxes can act as a screen for the rest with cloud of flies if needed. PBC's act as ranged heavy firepower softening up targets for the meat of my army to devour, and just generally act as annoying as possible. Blightlords DS in with the Termi sorcerer whom will buff their toughness (or I could have done Miasma to make them harder to shoot?) to make them harder to kill and act as a second wave for the zerkers, plus they can plug a few things on the drop with their heavy weapons firepower.

If I get 2nd it gets tricky against gunlines. The goal will still be to infiltrate the zerkers, but preferably in a position that will allow for a T1 charge with Warptime. Their goal will be to hide and survive. Everything else will act like any other normal game.

I think its fun, killy, and most of all, has both Khorne and Nurgle!

Just a quick question, and people out there please correct me if i'm wrong.

But how are you making your zerkers troops when you're using them as Alpha Legion? You need to have World Eaters to unlock them as troops as far as i'm aware.

Will be interested to see what you come up with tho mate as i have been thinking of a multi legion list using a combo of World Eaters, Death Guard or Emperors Children, not necessarily all of them tho!

I also want to point out that the plagueburst crawler doesn't have a stubber it has a heavy slugger. (Yeah, I know it confuses a lot of people.) They are 156 points not 154. Not a big deal but just pointing it out.

Fixed!

Also fixed the issue with Khorne Berzerkers and updated the list overall. I'd love some feedback

Do you find that the three Plagueburst Crawlers are enough to deal with tanks? Because I’d be worried about how to deal with tank heavy guard and such.

That is a good question! From what I've been reading around the web'z, PBC's do a phenomenal amount of damage, To answer your question.... I'm not 100% sure. I was thinking a single unit of Oblits (because they can DS with my Lords and Zerkers), but I felt like 3 PBC's seemed... right. Do you feel the list would not handle tanks all too well? Also remember you have a bunch of Str 6 rampaging berzerkers and some terminators to help if needed

From my limited 8th experience it does look like a pretty good rounded all comers list. I mainly play friendly fluffy games at my FLGS or at my place so by no means an expert for tourny's. The only issue i see is getting your Bezerkers into combat without losing too much to shooting/mind bullets. I'm guessing the Alpha Legion trait helps here?

I've been running mine with both chainswords and chainaxes for max carnage, backed up by lords, demon prices or Kharne! (I just have to run him for fluff reasons!) but they've have Rhino taxi's to get across the field. they are utterly lethal if you get the charge and pop the fight again stratagem to fight three times!

As to the death guard side i'll bow down to other people as tonight will be the first time i use my death guard army!

Will be very interested to see how this list does because as i said before i'm looking to do some mixed chaos lists as up until now it's been mono Emperors Children or World Eaters.

The Alpha Legion have a stratagem which allows one (1CP) or two (3CP) units to be infiltrated, which I believe is what is being used here.

Ahh of course! Must admit i've been pretty blinkered towards just WE and EC so not really looked at the other traits.

As the guy below pointed out, 2 CP's will be used to infiltrate the zerkers most (if not all) games. So I'm playing at 7 CP in most cases. I chose all axes for the +1 Str making them Str 6, this is pivotal because a vast majority of first turn targets will likely be large critters (MC's) or Vehicles, which all have high toughness.

I am thinking of plugging in a DP in place of the Term Sorc for the DG... however, 2 psychic abilities a turn really makes me not wanna do that lol

I'm not sure about the blightlord termies. I reckon there are probably better things to spend those points on. Maybe a couple of flesh mower bloat drones. They are so durable and mobile

I was thinking two Plaguespitter variants (mainly because I already have one); however, are they more durable than the Terminators? I think the Fleshmowers would (thematically) fit with a Khorne/Nurgle army though....herm.

So I updated this list with post CA point changes, and swapped on PBC for a drone (mostly because I actually have one and don't think I'll be purchasing 3). This leaves me 79 points.... what to do with a bunch of extra points? I can do a 5 man PM squad w/ two blightlaunchers for 105 to swap out one of my cultist units, or tack in a tallyman or another Chaos Lord for nurgle

Pretty sure you can only infiltrate 1 unit using that strategem. I just checked the rules and it looks like 1 is all you get.

Forward Operatives - "Use this Strategem when you can set up an Alpha Legion Infantry unit during deployment. You can set up the unit in concealment instead of placing it on the battlefield. At the beginning of your first battle round, but before the first turn begins, the unit emerges from its hiding place - set it up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" away from enemy models."

Now, I know some strategems come with limits (such as command re-roll stating once per phase), so are there limits to using other strategems? Basically your playing 2 CP down

Edit: Found the page it states it, well darn. Guess I can use points to get a rhino to haul the other zerkers?

So I'm getting more models, so I have a few options:

1) Swap my Cultist unit in the DG battalion with some PM's, somewhat kit them out, which eliminates one unit of Zerkers.

2) Add another Blight Drone, use the leftover points to bulk the Zerker squad to 15 models

3) Eliminate the second Zerker squad, which gives me like 250 points to do whatever with?

4) I'm thinking I want a second Chaos Lord for escorting the tanks with the plague relic.

From the looks of it, unless I'm mistaken, but wouldn't you be starting with 6 CP as the army isn't battle forged? I'm probably wrong on this.

As far as I am aware you can use all of your CP to infiltrate, but that wouldn't do you that much. As far as that goes for the Zerkers you could take a Land Raider, then double up the buffs by taking a Champion and a lord to make sure they slaughter anything they touch. Including the anti tank/MC that it comes with to maybe soften stuff up before they get there. Just a thought.

Get a Death Guard chaos lord with arch-contaminator trait and take 3 Plaguecrawlers instead of bloat drone so you can re-roll the wounds on the mortars

It is battleforged. Land Raiders are expensive (both points and $$$), and you can only infiltrate a single unit (you can only use a strategem once/phase)

I'd love a third PBC, but cost (and I only have two) prevents that in my list currently!
