My FLGS does a "buy two get one free" sale on Black Fridays. I'm getting into Tyranids and need help figuring out what to get. The other store I go to has a perpetual 20% off GW prices.

I'd like to do Genestealers, so the new SC box looks good. Should I get two (amounting to 3 with the sale at the first store) for the sake of a decently priced Broodlord? Would I have a use for that many Trygons and/or Mawlocs?

How should I get Genestealers beyond the SC box?

Should I try to get the original SC box for the Hive Tyrant and Guard?

What other models should I include in a 2,000 point list?

TL;DR: I need a shopping list for either a "buy 2 get 1 free" sale or a 20% sale. Ebay is also an option.

What do you want your nids to do? What type of list do you have in mind?

One old sc snd 2 new sc would be ideal. Or 2 new sc and a carnifex brood.

For more Genestealers just buy the troop box.

I want my 'nids to be able to TAC and deal good damage. Genestealers seem to be better than Hormagants because they have a 5++, speed, and damage. So I intend them to be my troops choice. I heard that I need Hive Tyrants, the 'Nids that can fire at anything regardless of LoS or cover, some gunbeasts, lots of genestealers, and I don't know what else. My FLGS has Necrons, Eldar, Death Guard, Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Dark Eldar, Adeptus Mechanicus, and Tau, from what I can remember.

Depending on what hive fleet you pick entirely different units becomes significantly more valuable. I always liked raveners but would never have used them before. Now I just ordered 4 boxes (12 model) because I am going to be going Jormungandr and suddenly half my strategy is built around broods of them. literally any tyranid kit has a place in the right list.

At first blush almost all the entries in the Nid book work. You don't NEED Hive Guard AND an Exocrine AND. Tyrannofex. Its really up to you. The only units that I'd avoid is lictors zoanthropes. Maybe maleceptors as well.

The thing about genestealers vs other troops is that they have different roles in the army. Genestealers are absolutly about damage but they also get shot easily.whereas hormies are about tying up units rather than doing damage and gamts are for tarpitting/sitting on objectives in large numbers that your opponent can't really ignore.

Basically almost everything is good now in some way, its just about how you use it.

I suppose some other troops could be useful, but there is a limit to how many models I can have, even with Tyranids. I was thinking Hive Fleet Kraken because it lets my Genstealers go faster.

If I end up including hormigants and termagaunts should I buy this?:

Not much to add...Nids can go lots of ways. Almost any list can be built around two Trygons, and two Broods of Stealers. So that would almost certainly be a way to go. If you plan on Krakon, they have blazing speed, so a couple of Broods of Hormagaunts, or Termagants will be useful.

After that its time for Big Bugs, and that is a style thing. I am thinking a Krakon Tyrannofex with Acid spray would be a terrifying thing to see zooming up the field. Exocrenes are certainly going to be useful in any Fleet, so thats a "safe" buy.

Good luck! And welcome to the Hive Mind!

Yes.

Every model in that box is useful. Genestealers hit hard, Trygons hit hard and act as drop pods for infantry, Termagants are effective meat shields or have a very good gun upgrade that can be delivered using the Trygon for an absurd amount of shots, and both Hormagaunts and Garg's give you fast fearless hordes.

Warning with Tyranids, it is easy to end up with WAY too many models. I'm writing lists right now that have 150+small bugs plus monsters, and staring at a painting table that I get to use maybe once a month.

I think you should absolutely get one box of zoanthropes. Run them all as neurothropes. It gets you some great character synapse psykers.

I would be really shocked if almost all lists dont include at least 1 or 2 neurothropes.

Me too!

That said, note that the Tyranid Army bundle that is on the GW webstore is a collection of boxes not a single item. It's $172 worth of stuff for $172. A handy rule of thumb is unless you see a special box in the pictures, it's a bundle and bundles rarely save you anything(there's been a War Walker bundle online for years that was $75 for 3 when they were $30 each but that was a notable exception).

I don't know how your FLGS does a "Buy 2 get 1 free" deal but most times it's buy 2 items of a certain price and get a similarly priced item for free, which would work well for you I think if you decide to do that Tyranid Army bundle.

Now I'm not sure if I should use Kraken or not.
