So, I'm going to start this off with some questions:

1- On a scale from 'Meh' to 'REEEEEEEE!', how bad are people about using third party models at most FLGS? Sorry, hate to say it- Chaos Warriors are butt-ugly and boring, and Avatars of War puts out a much better kit. Wholeheartedly intend to use their stuff. First kit came in the mail yesterday, loving it so far.

2- How imbalanced is the game, compared to 40k's balance?

3- What would you consider the 'must-have' units in a Chaos Warriors collection?

4- What is the best kind of bases to use, and why are they square bases?

5- What other proxy/third party model kits would you suggest?

1 - GW stores proper enforce company-only models (though as I understand it some locations are a bit flexible), but I've never heard of a flgs adopting that policy.

2 - Take 40k, drop the points, and base all games on power levels.

3 - Chaos Sorcerer Lord, at least one 40-man unit of marauders.

4 - Rounds. WHFB used squares, but AoS uses round bases. Short of chaos marauders all of the slaves to darkness infantry use 32mm bases. Afaik std's have been reboxed to age of sigmar and only oop boxes will still have the squares.

Chaos Warriors are butt-ugly and boring? The MOST menacing and... the best... Chaos... besides Bel'Akor... gngrngrn... *Suffers an aneurism*

3- if you are talking about Slaves to Darkness: Bel'Akor, Chaos Warrior, a Chaos Sorcerer as Ninth said, if you want to be competitive probably you are better on a Manticore. Marauder Horsemen are very good and Marauders are a must.

4-If you want to double use them for 9th age of warhammer fantasy, go round and buy wooden traits with circles on them. If you want to play AoS go round. So basically, always go round.

5- NinthMusketter has you covered. If you want more "historical barbarians" and less "He-Man cosplayers" for your Marauders, Frostgrave Barbarians are good to. And very cheap.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Sorcerer off manticore is the one you want because of the spell. Daemonic power is very useful in a slaves to darkness army, the one on manticore doesn't have it.

Bel'Akor doesn't have the Slaves to Darkness keyword.

Oh man, I'm so lost after months without playing AoS... you are right, I forgot that Bel'Akor don't has that keyword. And yes, I forgot too about the sorcerer on foot having the good spell.

I wouldn't say that the Manticor lord's spell was bad, it's just too swingy. If you manage to get a casting roll of 12 and get above average on the 12 dice, you can cause a lot of pain. On the other hand, you'll most likely get a casting roll of 7 and do 1-2 mortal wounds.

It's just that re-rolling hits/wounds/saves of one is very powerful in an army where 3+ to hit, 4+/3+ to wound, and 4+ armor is standard.
