Hi all,

I have been doing a little thinking about the new gunboat and am super psyched to play with it.

I have come up with two lists that both feature the same build for this ship, and I was hoping for a little feedback on as I haven't really played x-wing for a while.

List One (100)

•Major Vynder (35) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Veteran Instincts (1), Harpoon Missiles (4), OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2), Advanced SLAM (2)

•Colonel Vessery (39) - TIE Defender
Ruthlessness (3), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

•"Omega Leader" (26) - TIE/FO Fighter
Juke (2), Comm Relay (3)

This list plays of the synergy of not spending your target locks on the defending ships when you shoot at high pilot skills allowing Vessery to take advantage of his ability and double tap with ruthless.

List Two (99)

•Major Vynder (35) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Veteran Instincts (1), Harpoon Missiles (4), OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2), Advanced SLAM (2)

•Kylo Ren (41) - TIE Silencer
Intensity (2), Fire Control System (2), Autothrusters (2)

•"Pure Sabacc" (23) - TIE Striker
Veteran Instincts (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

This second one was a bit harder, is this a decent build for Kylo? and is there a decent way to find one more point to fit in Lightweight frame on Sabacc? I couldn't really think of a good way to squeeze it in.

I have considered adaptability or a score to settle for sabacc. With the latter, would that be too risky? It seems like a cool way to trigger harpoons and Kylo’s condition cards. Especially on support ships or something with less than amazing shooting.

Do you think this is a decent build for the gunboat? I haven’t seen much consensus about what the right direction is going to be. But I suppose it’s still a little early to say.

The problem with the "don't spend your lock using harpoon missiles" is that if you don't spend your target lock you struggle to get enough hits to be relevant. You're rolling four dice every turn, but with no mods unless you manage to take a turn or two off to set up a better shot. You're probably better off either taking the cannon title (with linked battery for action economy) or accepting that your ordnance ship is going to be shooting once every 2-3 turns at best but making it count when it does. For example, this is a list I've been playing:

RAC: predator, Kylo, Palpatine, engine upgrade

Vynder: VI, proton torps, ordnance title, advanced SLAM

Predator on RAC frees up Palpatine to pass crits to Vynder on your ordnance turns, and most of the high-PS threats right now can be consistently PS 0 after the first exchange. If they chase Vynder you SLAM away and throw Palpatine-boosted turret shots into them with RAC, if they chase RAC you torpedo them to death and still have a strong endgame ship once RAC goes down.

IMO the other alternative seems to be generics with HLC and linked battery, just for sheer jousting efficiency. But if you want an ace it's probably going to be Vynder with ordnance and some kind of buff support.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

That’s interesting, I’ll have a think about it a little.

I suppose it’s hard to tell how well a ship will perform in reality without giving it a go. (I suppose you could proxy up the ship as we now know all it’s details)

I think I will revisit this once I get my hands on the thing.

The missile boat is definitely a ship you spend every other turn firing. Its a long game sort of ship that makes its shots count when they happen.
