Hi all,

I'm trying to organise an apocalypse game for next month. It will be World Eaters and Emperor's Children VS Guard and Grey Knights. I don't have a massive grasp of 40K lore and am especially new to Chaos Space Marines. I'm basically looking for a bit of story to justify an alliance between the two rival Chaos Space Marine Legions (The Grey Knights and Guard bit will be easy, especially since the Emperor's Children will be bringing plenty of Daemons along for the ride). Obviously there is scope for them to turn on one another once their common objective has been achieved.

I would be looking at a rather basic scenario of capture some objectives or destroy some generators or something.

Does anyone have any lore friendly advice on how to make this scenario work? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rather simple really, just group them under a greater power. Perhaps this is a force of World eaters sent to expand Abaadon's red wake onto more worlds and he dictated that World eaters would lead the charge whilst the emperors children would serve as a sufficient force to provide fire support. They may not like it, they probably don't like it, but this is Abaddon we're talking about, you don't say no to Abaddon. the Guard/ Grey knight situation is pretty simple as you mentioned, Imperial guard defenders that are supported by the arrival of grey knight squads looking to oppose Abaddon's red wake.

With regards to objectives as you posted, they could be generators protecting a major space port or a supply base for an absent battlefleet.

I would encourage the game to conclude with a game of the surviours of the two sides fighting it out. Grey Knights turn upon Guardsmen they ally with when the Deamons are gone, and two chaos factions falling upon each other happens all the time.

It'll give you an overall winner to your game, and be very fluffy!
[And add an extra layer of tactical desision making when you're trying to with with your ally, but also ensure that your ally takes the most losses...]

It's not an alliance per say.

Two Chaos Champions are drinking at the same Chaos bar one evening when the World Eater Champion starts drunkenly rambling about how awesome his last fight was. "The Chapter Master of the Ethereal Velociraptors charged me, so I grabbed him by the Power Fist, picked him up, and threw him LIKE A JAVELIN at his own Land Raider. *KABOOOM!" After a half hour of this, the Champion of the Emperor's Children, staggers up to the World Eater's table. "bs you did. No way you could throw a Chapter Master into a Land Raider... and even if you did, I could do it better."

"feth you." The World Eater says. "An effeminate fop like you'd have gotten his head taken off on the first swing." The Emperor's Children Champions replies, "Just last week, I sodomized the Chapter Master of the Engorged Rhinoceros with his own power maul."

"BWAHAHAHAHA! You're making that up!"

"You doubt me?"

"Yeah, but I'll tell you what you sissy. Abaddon's tasked my warband with sacking an Imperial Garrison on Planet Fraggle Rock. I'll bet a thousand cultists against a ton of your best drugs that I can blow up their Baneblade before you."

"Bets on, you incompetent meathead."

Perhaps not technically a Marine Chapter anymore, but the Flame Falcons would be pretty creepy to fight.

"Boss, we waz out lookin' for grub when some of them Spice Marines showed up and shot all the lads."

"Right. Well, did you at least use the burnas?"

"We tried, but the gits was already on fire."

"...Kunnin'."

This seems like a set-up for a " A Khornate berserker and a noise marine walk into a bar" joke... except everyone runs...

I love this idea! Unfortunately I don't think there will be enough time for a follow up game.

It looks like I may have to enlist Abaddon as the means for a shaky partnership...

Abaddon does not have to actually be in the battle, it's just fluff that he commanded this assault so they both begrudgingly ignore killing each other in favour of a common enemy.

The follow up game does not have to be the same day. It could be anytime as long as you keep track of the models and wounds left.

Yeah, Abaddon is the logical choice, but I tend to avoid getting involved in the affairs of big named characters and their motivations in the narratives that I come up with. I find that I am not knowledgeable enough on 40k lore to do them justice and I'm afraid that I wouldn't write their parts 'realistically'. I suppose I'm pretty safe if I'm deliberately vague on details.

I'm keen to give this a go, I'm going to float it past the other players.
