Hey all,

I've only recently got back into 40k after an extended break - I've thrown this list together out a mix of models I've got laying around and models I'd quite like to build. Having said that, I do like being relatively competative!

So, the list:

Batallion Detachment:
HQ - Captain in Terminator Armour with a storm bolter - 122pts
HQ - Primaris Lieutenant with Master Crafted Stalker Bolter - 75pts
TROOP - Intercessor Squad with bolt rifles - 100pts
TROOP - Scout Squad with Camo Cloaks and Snipers - 90pts
TROOP - Tactical Squad with Bolters. - 65pts

The rest can be thrown into the batallion detachment, or I could possibly do some tweeking and get either a vanguard or spearhead detachment out of them.... Not sure where I'd want to lose the points to gain another Heavy or Elite choice though. It feels like a fairly rounded list, but I won't know for sure until I've got it on a tabletop and thrashed it out with the 8th ed rules.

HQ - Techmarine with Servoharness - 73pts
ELITE - Centurion Assault Squad with Siege Drills, 2xFlamers & Assault Launchers - 213pts
ELITE - Ironclad Dreadnought with Storm Bolter, Assault Launchers, Seismic Hammer, Smoke Launchers, 2x Hunter Killer Missiles and a Heavy Flamer - 153pts
FLYER - Stormraven Gunship with Twin Assault Cannons, Twin Heavy Bolters, Two Stormstrike Missiles and Two Hurricane Bolters - 274pts
TROOP - Intercessor Squad with Bolt Rifles - 100pts
HEAVY SUPPORT - Centurion Devastator Squad with Two Lascannons Each - 390pts
HEAVY SUPPORT - Hellblaster Squad with Plasma Incinerators - 165pts
FAST ATTACK - Inceptor Squad with Assault Bolters - 180pts

Tactics are fairly obvious;
Captain sticks around with the Hellblasters letting them supercharge every shot with little fear, Centurion Dev's stick close by to get in on the re-rolling hits action. Primaris Lieutenant could even give them a hand with rerolling wounds and still be useful with his M/C Stalker Bolter.

Scout Squad make use of their snipers to do what damage they can to Characters

Tactical Squad + 2 Intercessor Squads get to and hold objectives

Techmarine leads the Centurion Assault Squad and Ironclad in the Stormraven, gets up close and personal to anything big and scary - Techmarine can try to sort out any damage on the Ironclad or Stormraven

Inceptor Squad do what they do best and mow down anything requiring a barrage of heavy bolter fire

I like the list, it feels like it has something for everything. I just get this nagging feeling that there's something really obvious I've overlooked, Any and all advice welcomed

Cheers

I think my biggest concern would be the amount of points tied up in your Centurion Devs vs their durability. They cost a looooot of points (side note: I think a squad of 3 is 402, not 390 as you wrote. You forgot their hurricane bolters), and while they have decent saves and wounds their lack of an invulnerable save makes me think they're gonna go down quick. Your opponent will probably focus on them and remove them in a round or so, I would think; on the other hand, maybe that would work out in your favor since the rest of your army would be left intact. It's a tough call, but they don't seem worth it to me.

Personally, I'd remove them in favor of more dreadnoughts, or maybe a dread and some regular devastators. Adding in another dread will let you take a Vanguard detachment too. A Venerable Dread with twin las and a missile launcher is 165 points; you could fit two of those and then add some extra ablative wounds to some of your other squads, or maybe just take one of them and then add in a Dev squad with 4 lascannons and extra bodies to keep the las firing. You could take the one Venerable and a Dev squad with 10 men, armorium cherub, a basic sgt and 4 lascannons for the same amount of points (400) as those Centurions.

I hadn't even thought about subbing out the Cent Devs, but you're right. They were just my go-to for lascannons for some reason..... Maybe even two Lascannon Pred's would be better..... if I can find enough points, chucking a second Techmarine around them to keep them slightly more protected would be great.

Even on that kinda train of thought, putting an apothacary in with the Centurion Devs might give them a bit more hardiness, 6+FNP with a 4+ resurrection would make them pretty interesting. Will have another play with the list tomorrow and see what options I can come up with.

Sooooo, I had a bit of a day at Warhammer World today.... genuinely didn't mean to buy anything, but walked out with the Stormraven, a Techmarine and a bunch of IH Conversion sprues.

Oops.

It did, however, mean that I came home and played with the army list some more. Checked and double checked points (very glad I did, definitely had made some stupid mistakes before).

Let me know your thoughts......

Battalion Detachment

Captain in Terminator Armour, with Storm Bolter & Relic Blade - 128pts (Mainly because I want to use the Forgeworld Iron Father model.....)
Primaris Lieutenant, with MasterCrafted Bolt Rifle - 75pts
Intercessor Squad with Auto Bolt Rifles & Srg has a Power Sword - 109pts
Intercessor Squad with Auto Bolt Rifles & Srg has a Power Sword- 109pts
Tactical Squad with Bolters & Srg has a Power Sword - 69pts
Scout Squad with Camo Cloaks & Sniper Rifles - 90pts

Vanguard Detachment

Techmarine with ServoHarness - 90pts
Primaris Apothacary - 68pts
Ironclad Dreadnought with Siesmic Hammer, Heavy Flamer, Hunter Killer Missile, Dread Combat Weapon & Ironclad Assault Launchers - 156pts
Centurion Assault Squad with Flamers and Hurricane Bolters - 225pts
Stormraven Gunship with Twin Assault Cannons, Twin Heavy Bolters, Two Stormstrike Missiles & Two Hurricane Bolters - 274pts

Spearhead Detachment

Techmarine - 62pts
Hellblaster Squad - 165pts
Predator with Twin Lascannons & Lascannon Sponsons - 190pts
Predator with Twin Lascannons & Lascannon Sponsons - 190pts.

All in that brings me out at bang on 2000pts.

Let me know what you think!
