Hey,

I recently decided that my portfolio needed a bit of an update, and I felt that the fellowship of the rings models would be an ideal addition, due to them being instantly recognisable.

One of the things that I wanted to do was to make the fellowship standout from all those that predated it, and to do that, I took it upon myself to experiment with colours and textures.

Here is the cave troll! It was an absolute pleasure to paint. If you ever get a chance to paint this model, do!

Any suggestions on other minis that I should include in my portfolio are very welcome :-)

Very nicely done. Still authentic to the film visuals but the touches of colour (aside from being very well used from a technical perspective) evoke classic fantasy artwork and give the model a real '2D painting brought to life' vibe. Looking forward to seeing your take on the Fellowship now!

Very well done. I love it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Cheers James! Currently about half way through, but I have a sneaky feeling that Necromunda might take priority, this coming week ;-)

Really appreciate this. Legolas is the one model that I'm not overly enthusiastic about painting. At the moment I'm really not quite sure what to do...

Very nice job on the skin.
But I'm not a fan of the base. I think it should bring a little bit of contrast. Also, the way you shaded your troll (lots of purple in the recesses) is very different than the very black&white base. It looks a bit like two different painting styles put next to each other.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Amusingly, my friend lives the base ... Which I was rather surprised at. The reason for the base style is that it ties the whole fellowship together, and fits the board. Was this a standalone display model, I would heartily agree with you.

I'm ok with the base, the rock looks really sweet.

But I hope you selected a scheme that at least contrasts with some of the other models in the force. It's difficult to choose a base style when you have different looking various creatures. Consistency in the platform is always good, and I think it's quite nice.
