Whats up everyone?

Currently getting back into 40k after 4 years and loving 8th edition so far. I'm starting a Grey Knights force and am looking for help with a beginner list and what to by next.

The current models I have are-

32 Power Armor/Strike Squad Grey Knights (incl 4 Psycannons, 2 Incinerators)
20 Terminator Models (1 Psycannon, 2 Incinerators)
Brother Captain Stern
Castellan Crowe
1 Rhino

I just need help configuring these into units and figuring out what to buy next. Basically how should I distribute squads, and what are some units that would flesh this out into a full size decently competitive force?

Use your Strike Squads as Strike Squads. Specific loadout doesn't really matter much but keep them cheap and avoid the special weapons (sadly, this is going to be the case for most things).

The Terminators should be done as Paladins, probably with a mix of falchions, halberds, or hammers. Again, kept cheap where possible.

I'd say your next purchases should be:
Dreadknight - build as Grand Master (just give him fancy gubbins)
Stormraven - give it the lascannon, multimelta, and hurricane bolters imo
more Razorbacks - lascannons or assault cannons

From my experience with the Grey Knight community in 8th so far, this is the way to do things.

(Well, the real way would be 3-5 Grand Master Dreadknights and add them as a detachment to another army but I wanted to be helpful )

So I've been playing around a bit with different setup of strikes/palas and i have to mostly agree with rihgu here.
IMHO best setup for a strike squad is 4 guys with falchions paragon with hammer
best setup for paladins is 2 guys with falchions paragon with hammer
everything above that is wasting points and that also means possibly wasting CPs.

For HQs i would recommend a GMNDK since the 2 choices you have are kinda meh (stern) to terribad (crowe)
In bigger point games you could run crowe as a cheap countas brotherhood champion if your gaming group is cool with that (2nd HQ for 2nd detachment)

The next choice youll have to make is how you gonna transport all those Strikes
If your local setting is more on the competitive side i'd recommend to pick either the storm raven or the razorback and then go big on those and scrap the other
for me stormravens work best when you have at least 2 of them
If you decide on razorbacks you might want to wait for Chapter approved before building them (or at least dont glue the turret), since its hard to tell if after points rebalancing the assault cannon or the lascan will come out ahead.

If you on the other hand decide that mass paladins are to your liking then turning some of those Strikes into interceptors might also be an option.
They work great for putting some cheap boots on the ground for drop distribution and can join the deepstriking palas with their shunt

Gonna break from the above posters and recommend you make at least half the power armored guys interceptors (or magnetize if that’s your thing). You need interceptors for any kind of pure GK alpha strike since you can’t start more than 50% in reserve, and the 12” move+shunt+gate of infinity makes them super mobile. For HQs I would get 2 dreadknights and run them as grandmasters. Run your terminators as 3-man paladin squads, don’t give them heavy weapons since there is no advantage over power armored guys and they cost 10 pts more apiece. Ruining in 3 man units maximizes the number of smites and the number of guys with WS 2+. You already have 2k points (or close to it) and a battalion, adding DKs is really the only thing you need right now. If you do want to get some vehicles/transports (which you don’t really need cause everyone can deepstrike, gate, or shunt) then grab stormravens; they offer speed and fantastic firepower...unfortunately that also means they will draw every anti-tank shot in your opponent’s army without anything other than a 3+ armor to protect them.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

You're going to NEED some Razorbacks and a Stormraven or 2 if you want any chance at reliably knocking out enemy armor. Without them your only reliable anti tank is short ranged Smites and Dreadknight in melee. The DKGM with a sword will smash vehicles if he can catch them, but they can run faster than you can chase and it isn't all that hard to shoot down a Dreadknight.

At 2000 points I am running 2 Lascannon Razorbacks, an Assault Cannon Razorback, and a Stormraven with Lascannons and a Typhoon. I'm usually going to go first and that's enough guns to chip away a tank or two but it's a lot less firepower than I'm used to with IG, Dark Angels, or Battle Sisters. I would be happier with more...

For other tidbits, Voldus is AWESOME, the GKGM is great, Paladin's are great ( I prefer a bigger squad, usually 6 or 8), Strike Squads are pretty good but don't bother with too many upgrades. Interceptors are good, but you need to be careful with them as they can die pretty easily for such an expensive unit. Regular Terminators are ok, but for 6 or 8 more points (I can't remember) Paladin's are a no brainer over Terminators.
