So I've finally got my copy of Inferno ordered! But before it's arrived I'm too eager to assemble my 10 Custodes and wanted to ask those in the know the best armament.

I'd already asked previously about whether each unit can have the standard bearer in and the answer was yes. So to follow this up, is it actually worth doing that?

Finally I was going to give 4 of them spears plus a standard and 4 with the swords and shields (plus a standard). Is it wise to split them up like this or should I go for all spears?

I might order 5 more and give them the spears (plus a standard?)

I've got the Event special tribune to use to lead them (as well as 10 sisters if I use a Talons list)

This is just a starter for now, but as I say wondered the best way to assemble my Custodes as I want to start painting them!

In 30k, the troops-class custodes can only have either spears or shields, but not both within the same unit.
Other, fancier units like the Hetaeron can mix and match though.

You almost certainly want a vexilla with a MC power axe or a solerite gauntlet to stop artificer sergeants from locking you down in combat.

Shields and swords are generally better for survivability and MEQ mushing, but you really need paragon or guardian spears to fight TEQs.

Ok so 1 unit of each with Vexillas for now seems fine, and I'll look over the Hetaeron when my book arrives and decide what to do with a 3rd unit if I buy one

Convert some special spears maybe to spear squad and fist to sword squad. Otherwise single dread is unstoppable monster
