After being pushed to finally finish this damned thing for a tournament, I can say I'm really pleased with it- both as a model and in the game itself! What do you guys think?

Looks pretty good. The colour scheme is a little on the boring side - but that could also be the camera. So, when are you doing your second one? (watched Tabletop Tactics...and Bone recommends two!)

The camera isn't great, but the colour scheme probably is "boring". I paint my Tau as Sa'Cea, which means using the scale of Fenrisian Grey/Russ Grey/The Fang, lots of dull blue. It's a personal preference, I'm not a fan of bright colours, I like my suits to look a bit more down to earth.

I've actually been thinking of doing a second one, just for funsies. It's a great model in and of itself, might be worth it just for that. Two of them would need to be 2000+ points battles though, they're 415 apiece once you've given them an ATS and target lock...

Looks great! Must be quite "easy" to do highlights, etc on a bigger model, so I'll assume the biggies are quite fun to paint!

Also, are the door panels under the model part of the official miniature's base itself? or did you add that?

Cheers!

Thanks! It is easier to highliht a riptide than a fire warrior, sure, although there are a lot oh highlights to go through!

The door panels are from the sector imperialis large base kit- I wanted to spice up the base a bit, make it more interesting. The idea is that the yvahra is totally walking all over the door of an imperial church, sneering at the silly gue'la superstitions

Very neat paintjob, but maybe add some washes and weathering to the base to pick out the details of the panels?

Agreed, the model is clean and well done, but the base looks unfinished. In addition to the above suggestion, I have a fondness of the Oxide Technical paint from gw. Wonderful at making copper really look wonderful.

Huh. I actually did wash the entire model with a 50/50 mix of nuln oil and water- mostly because pure nuln oil makes it look really grimy and dirty, not really smooth. I'll happily hear some suggestions, though- and thanks for the praise.

I actually didn't know about Oxide Technical. How would you apply it?

The paint scheme is not boring at all. I love the realistic/pac rim aspect.

Think it came out great, remember sometimes too much is the same as not enough.

Thumbs up!

Thank you!
(Pac rim?)

My general approach with suits is to always have one dominant colour, which is accentuated by smaller patches of compatible colours. In this case The Fang, accentuated by Russ Grey. And of course the details, like the bronze flamer.

PAcific Rim. Some reason it reminds me of Pacific Rim Robots, which is a compliment FYI.

Well of course I'd take it as a compliment, pacific rim is freaking rad

I actually had a friend mention the exact same thing to me. I guess it has that mecha vibe to it, not quite as gundam as the other battlesuits.
