Hi all,

Getting back into 40k after a looong time away and want to start with a small 500 point fun army to build on. Any advice and I mean any will be appreciated!!

Tempestus Prime w/chainsword and command rod - 40pts
Tempestus command squad w 4 plasma guns - 64 pts
Tempestus scions w/ plasma pistol and 2 hotshot volley - 68 pts

Culexus assassin - 85 pts
Vindicare assassin - 90 pts
Eversor assassin - 70 pts
Callidus assassin - 80 pts

Total 497 pts

I'm running this more for fun but would love to tinker.

Definitely worth trying out all of the assassins to see what you feel are most effective. In my experience the vindicare and culex is are always good. The other two are fun but less of an impact.

Just a note that everything can deepstrike here so may be worth getting something that won’t be deepstriking as the matched play rules are that half your units must start on the board.

I would love to do a themed scion army with some valkyries with inquisitors, commissars and officers of the fleet in them and then some forgeworld flyers. If I ever do it would be 2 valkyries with the inquisitors, commissars, officers of the fleet, primaris psykersmand the ogryns getting grav-chuted closer to the enemy and then all the scions arriving.

I say inquisitors because they are psykers and provide better leadership. Commissars are throw away elites that also provide goodish combat and leadership buffs. Officers of the fleet will buff the valkyries and the FW flyers. Ogryns would protect all character close to them.

Sorry went off on a tangent, really want to do that army lol

Looks like a fun list!

I'm yet to run all of my assassins together but I'd like to hear what happened if you did!

Scions/ assassins are also some of the coolest models imo..

I love my inquisition army.. it's just a pity it's not really super competitive at the minute.. or has the character it did in previous editions.

My and a friend do enjoy having inquisition vs inquisition games though, the random but heroic actions make for decent laughs!

Accept any challenge, No matter the odds

The deep striking is a good idea I've looked into it and think I'm going to go with a catachan main build with them lead by colonel straken and I'm going to convert the main army into soldiers with bionic limbs to match him.

I'm running them all next week when I've sorted out the main build to get the best out of them.
I ran a test though against just infantry and this played great but I think against vehicles and characters it could struggle but I'll know next week!

I'll be honest it was the look that made me pick them just the style and I think having the assassins joined by stormtroopers in the same colour scheme will look good.

Yeah I looked at inquisition and I just couldn't make it work for me but what do you play to make it run well?

The converted bionic dudes to match straken sounds awesome!

Characters should be no issue with the vindicare and infantry can be mulched by the eversor and vehicles are what plasma was made for.. Scions with plasma mess up vehicles from my experience.

My assassin's are a little out there.. I have a Deadpool coloured Eversor called WW.. A clown culexus I call IT.. I'm still working on the other two but the plan is a runaway bride Callidus and a ranger vindicare wearing a cloak and the like..

Inquisition wise I usually only take inquisitors but acolytes with plasma and stormbolters backed up by a monkey usually do alright. Usually just there for the transport options they have.

Accept any challenge, No matter the odds

The scion command with 4x plasma is a bit of a blood blister. I'd consider moving 2 of the plasma onto the infantry squad and running 2x plasma 2x volley guns on the command section.

This list could struggle against a 2 Russ Guard list at 500pts, but 500pt lists are always goofy unbalanced high concepts.
