the first: when you exalt a thread, it should show up on that particular poster's name/post. So you can see how 'popular' a particular post is. I don't like 'dislikes', i feel them to be redundant (if a post has likes, that's sign enough), but i think a 'like' button could be useful/interesting.

the second: when a thread gets locked, you need a thread somewhere else where you can add a final +1 post. Even if it doesn't make sense within the context of the thread itself. Think of it as venting. So i'm reading a thread, and i'm forming an opinion, and then i find out the thread is locked (for whatever reason). So i go to the 'locked thread' thread and post my reply. It would be insanity, if a sane person was reading it, but i'd get to make my reply to a thread that was already locked. Think of venting as therapeutic.

Although there have been times when I've felt I needed 'afters' especially when the thread has been locked for bickering, spam, nonsense by others and I've got something useful to say.
I could see why this is a bad idea but if used responsibly it would be a nice option for those involved that had engaged before the lock to compose one final succinct post without bumping the thread.
More realistically it would become a last chance shot across the bows and a string of '[MOD EDIT - No expletive filter workarounds please! - Alpharius] YOU!!!!!!!!!'s.

It could possibly work if purely limited to the OP. It'd be a nice chance for them to thank those that have engaged properly or apologise for asking about recasting, breaking a rule because they're new or whatever. It'd make sense for that final response to be vetted by MODS which is just more workload.

Fair enough, wasn't looking for a popularity contest when i had the idea. Just saw it on other forums i'm on, and found it useful to basically 'agree' with someone without having to make a quote a post and type agree at the end of it.

Hahaha, i was a bit drunk when i posted this. But yeah, i was imagining a thread where it had random shots across the bows with every post that each had no correlation to other posts in the thread. It seemed like a good idea last night.

Sorry, i've been drinking again and if we can get past all the 'savage burn' responses, i still think a 'like' button would be of use. I've read a few posts now and i still think a 'like' button would be handy. A 'dislike' button might cause the popularity contest you're trying to avoid, but a 'like' button is a common feature in a lot of forums that seem to do alright without degenerating into flame wars.

Feel free to continue with the "omg that's so savage". Honestly, insaniak phrased it so well that it was both politically correct *and* savage. I get that. Kudos.

And while i'm on the topic, yeah i'd still like the opportunity to post a response in a completely unrelated thread that was related to a thread that was closed for being inappropriate. But that's just me.
