Hello everyone, Paradigm is exceptionally busy with his uni work this weekend so has asked me to set the voting up on his behalf.

This month saw us tackle the theme of "hold the line". The model limit was lifted so entrants could enter as many or as few models as they liked. This has lead to huge amount of plastic crack being painted, congrats to everyone that finished or took part.

Now it's time to pick a winner. As usual, vote for as many entries as you like for any reason you like, be that paint or conversion work, suitability to the theme, ambition or effort or anything else that catches your eye. Voting will run for 5 days!

Massive, massive thanks to Midget for setting this up, as I slowly sink into a pile of drafts, deadlines and word counts for the next week or so!

I'll be sure to drop in and cast my votes, but please accept my apologies if I'm not around much and if I don't get around to updating the current challenge thread for the next few days. Normal service will be resumed shortly, provided my brain doesn't explode in the mean time!

I ended up voting for 8 entries instead of my usual 5 since the finished work this month is even better than the usual excellent showing from everyone. I just have to comment on everyone! Here goes:

u971: Those Necrons came out very well, and you did a lot of them. I imagine they must be boring to paint, so kudos for doing that many!
ChaosDad: That's a lot of Grey Knights! They are one of the coolest armies in the game despite their lackluster performance on the tabletop, and yours look great!
Nevelon: As usual, your Ultramarines are very clean looking and neatly painted. Bonus points for doing the shoulder trim in a color besides yellow or gold.
ZergSmasher: Don't quit your day job, buddy...
HungryTaz: Very cool color combo for those Blood Bowl Orcs. Seeing stuff like that makes me want to get into that game!
TheDraconicLord: I didn't know there was a Dark Souls board game. The models look cool!
Oppl: Wow, the detail on this model is amazing and very well done! That model should go in a display case and would be right at home in a military museum of some sort!
ZenBadger: I love the Band of Brothers TV series, and these guys look great! WW2 is my favorite period of military history, so it's nice to see cool models like this!
Kavika0311: Nice to see some different-looking Ultramarines! They look great, although I'm not sure about the bases (but that's a matter of personal taste more than how well done they are).
Power Elephant: I like the check pattern on these players, and the basing with lines in the grass is a nice touch!
DanceOfSlaanesh: I'm not sure what Dark Eldar model this is, but he is well painted. Interesting to use bright, garish colors instead of dark tones; most Emo Space Elves I see are painted black or dark green.
n1ceguypaul: Those skeletons look great, especially the cloth on what's left of their clothes. Only thing I would change would be smaller grass tufts on the bases.
Chris56: This is a very creative entry and interpretation of the challenge theme. It's pretty well painted too!
Gulgog Tuftoof: 'e looks ded killy, like he'z reddy ta krump sum 'umie gitz. WAAAGH!
Moolet: Nice scratchbuild for Dante, and he's pretty well painted too.
Januine: There are no words adequate for this model!
NathanD298: I love the AdMech models, and you've done a good job on these two. The photos could have been better, but I'm not in a position to talk about that considering mine are usually not great either.
Lovebeard: Nice paintwork on those Templars, especially the eye lens from the detail shot (wish mine looked that good). I'm not sure where you were going with the bases, though (is that lava?). Good models nonetheless!
Supershandy: I love the color scheme on your Tau! Pics were a little dark though, if they were brighter the colors would look even better.
General Annoyance: This may be the best Painboy I've ever seen!
Modock: Yet more awesome Infinity models from you! You really know how to blend colors like nobody's business.
Guildenstern: Killa Kanz are one of my favorite Ork units, and yours looks great! Not sure I care for the base, but that's more a matter of personal taste (I'm kind of particular about bases, not sure why).
Midget Gems: Your entries are usually very creative, and this one is one of the best interpretations of a challenge theme yet!
Obispal: Your paintjob on these guys' armor is very well done, too bad you couldn't finish the bases in time!
CREEEEEEED: Unfortunate that you couldn't get their jump packs done, as the models look great otherwise!
KernelTerror: Those Cultists look more like cultists than the actual GW cultists, which look more like some kind of guerillas or something. Nice job getting so many done!
feltmonkey: I love Stormcast Eternals, and the look you went with (cool instead of warm shading) gives a great effect that is nice and different from the normal way of painting gold.
keezus: I like the colors on this model, and how the highlights and stuff are there without being overstated.
Elbows: That is one cool Leviathan! The weathering is absolutely spot on and makes it look like it has seen its share of battles.
Paradigm: Your ability to knock out models like this in an afternoon makes me very jealous! You even managed to do this guy well in the middle of all your busy college life, so double kudos!
Vejut: You always find interesting models to enter in these challenges, and this one is one of your best!
Peregrine: Nice to see you back in the challenges! The bunker turned out great!

I certainly had fun with my own entry in this challenge, and I hope you all did too! Special shout out as always to Paradigm for running the challenge and to Midget Gems for taking the time to make this voting thread so Paradigm could focus on his studies. See you all in the December challenge!

Just placed my Vote

Really difficult to choose though, I normally only choose five out of the entire lineup in these competitions so.......

ZergSmasher I love the way they give off the demonic look, makes them quite terrifying.

PowerElephant I've never played blood bowl but if it has models that look as good as yours, i'd be interested to take a look at it

Oppl The attention to detail on this is absolutely incredible, how you got the Tartan THAT neat is beyond me, very well done!

Elbows The weathering is amazing and the way you did the whole model in no time at all is a technique i'd like to learn someday!

Paradigm The blood staining is what did this for me because it looks completely natural and doesn't look at all fake, really make the whole model stand out in my eyes!

Some interesting entries this month and nice to some new faces.
Thanks guys for the comments and votes!

I voted for:

Oppl - great overall painting, especially the tartan pattern!
ZenBadger - you did a neat job on those soldiers and it fits the theme perfectly.
DanceOfSlaneesh - those are some nice blends and it takes balls to show picture so up close.
Chris56 - My oh my, you did it again and double it! What an amazing diorama. I can see you've improved a lot
specially with the airbrush! There's a sea of details and techniques from rust effects, streaks, osl, color blends
and so on. You should be proud! Why this isn't in top three is beyond me !?!
Moolet - clean, crisp paint job! The cape is beautiful and the axe is even more! Maybe darkening the shadows
on the armor a bit to increase the contrast?
Januine - excellent blend on the sword and the base is top notch. Too bad the picture is a bit low quality, I'm having
a hard time seeing all the details.
Midget Gems - Mr. Comedy strikes again, I love it! Taking the theme literally to a whole new level. Cool water effect
and the strap detail is priceless! Hope those two survive!
Feltmonkey - amazing looking squad of eternals! Very crisp and precise!
Elbows - for the time invested it looks gorgeous!

Thanks to both MG and Paradigm for combined effort !

See you all next month.

I voted last night after I got home from a long drive, and I forgot to post comments...now I'm not entirely sure who I voted for. As usual my four-five votes just went to people whose entries I clicked on and immediately liked.

The old Guardian is great.

The guard vs. daemons little miniature scene was superb.

I normally don't like Salamanders but I think I threw a vote at Obispal.

I like Peregrine's bunker.

I also liked Oppl's Highlander - and I normally don't love super-realistic historical miniatures...but it's great.

My favourites, by far, was Chris56's diorama, followed by Obispal's salamanders. Shame you didn't finish them, though...

Thank you all who said nice things about my diorama!

It was another really tough month, with loads of great entries.
I voted for oppl, januine, modock, midgetgems and hungrytaz - really great painting from everyone and a wide range of takes on the theme.
oppl - just great detail and realism, I am blown away by the freehand - great job;
januine - great shading and work on the face, really impressive;
modock - the contrast in your shading seems more extreme and smooth every month!;
midgetgems - a really awesome diorama - witty and beautifully executed; and
hungrytaz - great choice of colours and really crisp painting, top job.

Praise as always to Paradigm and Midgetgems for all their work running and compiling this challenge.

Ended up casting quite a few votes this month. Special shoutouts to Chris56 and Midget for some fantastic diorama work, both of you totally sold your concepts in the execution there.

Also to Mootlet for a great update to a classic character that is instantly recognisable, Feltmonkey for doing a fantastic job of making that Stormcast scheme really pop and Oppl for a simply great paintjob on a very unique model.

Thanks to everyone who voted for my Stormcasts, and to ZergSmasher, Modock, and Paradigm for the kind comments.

I voted several days ago, so I can't remember exactly who for, but I do remember it was quite a few entries! I'm going to give everyone a comment.

u971 - A big squad of intimidating-looking Necrons. They look good as a big group, and the green guns of course pop. Did you use that clear green plastic they come with, or paint it?

ChaosDad - A really nice group shot! Nice painting, particularly on the scrolls, but I really like the composition of the photo with them all waving various weapons at the camera.

Nevelon - As usual a nice clean paintjob from you. Great Ultramarine colours, and I like the blue eye lenses.

ZergSmasher - You've done a good job on some very fiddly miniatures. You've got a nice sickly green colour going on there. Some good highlighting on the armour too. Also quite impressive to get so many of them done in a month. These are definitely the kind of minis it would take me a month to do one of.

HungryTaz - Excellent work! Really clean, great contrast and highlights, good colour choices, and I really like the flames.

TheDraconicLord - Simple but sinister painting. I like how you've added bits of colour to everything. I would have looked at screenshots of Dark Souls and painted everything brown.

Oppl - Great stuff. The freehand is excellent, but the thing I really like is the character you've put into the model's face.

ZenBadger - Again, really characterful work. Exceptionally neat and clean, too.

Kavika0311 - I like the blue tone you've achieved on these marines. Also, huge bases! I'm personally not keen on the gloss finish, but that might just be me.

Power Elephant - Crazy paint scheme! Is the symbol on the back freehand? It's very good if so.

DanceOfSlaneesh - Nice old-school GW style paintjob. Great blending on the shoulder armour.

n1ceguypaul - I love these miniatures, and how you've got them grouped together really brings out how dynamic they are. They look great! I like the blue-grey you use to tie them together as a squad.

Chris56 - Fantastic work! A really nice little diorama. Those pastel colours on the horrors! It looks like something out of Eavy Metal circa 1989.

GulGog Tuftoof - Another month, another ork! Do you ever paint anything else? I admire your commitment. It's a good paintjob, nice highlights and nice checks.

Moolet - Great painting as usual. I really like the face and the lightning, which is amazing!

Januine - Nice to see you back with a bang. Fantastic paintjob. The sword is very eyecatching, and some of the detail (particularly on the face) is unreal. I like how you've done the base, too.

NathanD298 - Very sharp, very clean paintwork. Nice subtle touches of weathering as well.

Lovebeard - Cool Black Templers. They look great together as a squad. Great work on the eye lenses, too.

Supershandy - A grim and serious-looking Tau squad. A really nice job, but a few more highlights and spot colours would really bring them out further.

General Annoyance - Very nice. Really smooth, sharp and clean.

Modock - You know what I'm going to say. Brilliant work as always. So colourful! Highlighting red with orange and shading it with purple is just the right way to go, isn't it?

Guildenstern - A cool collection of killa kans. Nice details on each of them. What's going on with the bases - are they walking on water? Who knew Jesus was an ork?

Midget Gems - I love it.

Obispal - It's a shame you didn't get these finished. Lovely green tone you've got there. I've got a load of those MK3 marines unbuilt. I've just put them in the cupboard (from which nothing ever escapes) maybe I should dig them straight back out again.

CREEEEEEED - A more muted military green, but also very cool. They look great charging towards the camera, and I like how you've got one of them leaping off a Tactical Rock.

KernelTerror - A really cool unusual take on cultists! They look a lot more how you would imagine cultists to be than the standard GW models. (I recognise those shields, btw!) Your pictures came out very purple - could be a white balance issue?

feltmonkey - Not particularly popular this month, but I don't think I was expecting them to be up towards the top. Not that I don't like them - I'm really pleased with how they came out and proud of them. I went for a particular mood, and I think I did achieve it to an extent. They don't have an immediate focal point though, something to draw your eye when presented with so many awesome paintjobs. Plus they're Stormcasts, and no-one likes Stormcasts. AND they're just blue and gold Stormcasts! The worst kind.

keezus - So nice. The colours, the blends, the awesome base. Really great job.

Elbows - This has come out looking really effective. I do wish you'd do a bit of highlighting to take your stuff to the next level, but your method has really worked here. Nice work with the sponge.

Paradigm - Lovely stuff. I love how the use of light directs the eye and enhances the narrative.

Vejut - Did we see this one before, or was that a different cat person? I don't remember seeing one with a big purple horn before. It's a very nice horn, by the way - I notice that even the horn has a horn. Who doesn't like a big purple horny horn?

Peregrine - A solid-looking bunker. I like how you've done the cracks from the gunshots, and the dust staining the lower part of the bunker.

Great work again everyone!

@Zerg: Thanks! Ded Killy is all I really aspire to, so you have paid me the highest compliment possible.

@Feltmonkey: Glad you liked my ork. As far as painting anything else goes, I'd like to, and told myself I would as soon as I get my ork army squared away. At 1 ork boy per month, my horde army should be finished around the time GW releases the codex, so maybe I'll be able to move on some time next year! In the meantime, check the signature

Everyone else, as usual, if I could click directly through to the gallery on your first image, then you got a gallery vote from me. Hopefully, if enough people do the same, we'll see more of these minis on the home page.

Wonderful work everyone, thanks to Para and Midget Gems for running the competition again this month.

Hi All, Apologies for not commenting earlier. I've had an Xmas cold the last few days so not felt up to much.

Well done everyone, this is the most votes I've given on a challenge just because there where so many deserving entries.

u971
You have done really well with the washing of those models, they have a good battered, dirty metal feel to them

ChaosDad
A lot of very detailed models done in one month, great work. The writing on the scrolls and the dreadnought book is fantastic.

Nevelon
A good solid entry, I like who you have flicked the snow up their legs blending them into the bases.

Zergsmasher
I can see a definite improvement in your painting this month and you got through quite a few models. They have a nice dirty feel and you have done a subtle glow to the plasma gun with is nice.

HungryTaz
Great choice of colours so some good looking models and very well painted

TheDraconicLord
The Skeleton soldiers remind me most of the Dark Souls series. You have captured the muted colours with one colour standing out very well.

Oppl
Wow sunning Work Oppl, The tartan is my fav part of you paint job.

ZenBadger
Good detail on the models and I like the yellow light you have shone on them, it makes them seem like they are fighting at night using flares

Kavika0311
A good number of Ultras paint. For me the bases are the really star of the entry they look great

Power Elephant
You have done well to incorporate your original ideas into a colour scheme for your team. I hope the rest of the team will look as good

DanceOfSlaneesh
A cool old skool model and I do like the very bold highlights. I wish I could be that brave with mine at times.

n1ceguypaul
The blue cloth really adds to the models. I like the guy with the fur trim in the back the most

Chris56
Love the colour palette a really well thought out entry and one of the best this month I feel.

GulGog Tuftoof
Another solid Ork from GulGog, please take a photo for your horde at the end of the year, would love to see them all together

Moolet
A nice change of models with a good pose for Dante. The lightning on the axe looks great.

Januine
Great to see you back entring and still painting to such A high standard. Love everything about it from the very subtle wood grain on the rifle stock to the stone effect on the base

NathanD298
You got 2 quite detailed models painted in a month, Congrats. The odd bit of battle damage and fraying on the cloth is a nice touch to the models.

Lovebeard
I would really like those models even if they didn't have paint on them. Has one got a holy hand grenade?

Supershandy
I will echo what feltmonkey said. Online videos and websites like tales or painters (because they give nice step by step pictures) are where I turn if I need to check a technique. To get a thin line edge line I water down my paint a little of it flows but still covers well then use the edge of a small brush (not the tip).

General Annoyance
The trousers are great, I tried to do that exact effect on a previous entry but was so embarrassed by the result I painted over it.

Modock
Another brilliant entry from you with great colours. I like that you bring infinity models to this challenge, and are a very good champion for making me want to buy some.

Guildenstern
The Jesus Kans have a lot of character, well done

Midget Gems
Splash effect could be better and ran out of time to add a few more details like wine bottles and a tackle box. lesson learnt don't use cling film to create a waterproof container to pour model water into (its sticks to it when it dries surprisingly............) Still i had fun with the idea and I hope it entertained a few people, which is what I do them for.

Obispal
They are looking really good, shame you didn't get to finish them.

CREEEEEEED
I like how you have posed them, and you remembered little details like mud on the bottom of the boots. What chapter are they?

KernelTerror
Brilliant conversion work to get so many done in a month. They are a very impressive horde.

Feltmonkey
Thank you for the backstory on the models, Its given me an insight into the new Fantasy World (they almost seem like an army of the nameless ones from Planescape Torment ) I like that you toned down the gold/Yellow on their armour. It can at times be garish.

keezus
I love the Striking scorpion models. They remind me of the PC game Rites of War (quite a through back if anyone remember that game)

Elbows
Quite a beast of a model. You have done really well on the battle damage. I'd like to see you make the eyes and lenses really stand out , that would hep draw your attention to the middle of the model.

Paradigm
The para entries we know and love. Hope your uni work goes well.

Vejut
That is one massive pike. I think it could hold several lines from across the battle field. For improvement tips, I would say water down the paints a little, wash every colour you paint with a suitable wash e.g. the gold use nulu oil, and do a bit of edge highlighting after the wash to make the model seem more real.

Peregrine
The bunker is very good and you have added some small details that really give it a lived in feel as part of a battle field.

Gulgog TufToof, HungryTaz, u971, thank you very much for voting for peoples Images, I do the same.

Right back to bed now, Good luck all and have fun Thank you very much for any votes for my entry.

Some very impressive scores at the top the month, and well deserved!

In third, Oppl's Black Watch Highlander.

Taking second by just a couple of votes, Januine's Inquisitor Covenant.

And taking the win this month, General Annoyance with an Ork Painboy!

Congratulations and thanks to all who took part, left feedback and voted, and again to Midget Gems for covering for me while I was unavailable. See you all next month!
