so I got a dark imperium box set mainly for my deathguard army but the new primary marines are just so nice I gotta paint them up. after plenty of back and forth as to how I plan on painting them I think I've finally got a look I'm happy with.let me know what you guys think.

so the orange helm is going to be my sargent. regular marines will have grey helm with orange stripe on head.

Is the arm supposed to be a slightly different colour than the rest of the orange? That's the only part which looks really off --- that and black shoulder pads on a dark grey body (also too close). I don't think those minor colour changes would translate well to miniatures.

hey thanks for your feedback,

I'm also on the fence with the arm as well, but it wasn't suppose to be off orange it's actually going to be gold as well as the crest on his chest. so the marine over all is grey with orange trim and black shoulder pads. in the past ivw had bad experiance with black so I tend to go with a dark grey instead. just my personal preference i think it looks better.

got any suggestions on what you think might look better?

Gold? Hmmm...that's an odd connection. Not sure how I feel about it - but it's most important what you like. I hate Salamanders because I hate green, but that shouldn't stop someone from painting them!

I like the idea of a gold arm (or arms) but I'm not sure I think they'd work particularly well with orange. Not sure how I'd change it.

so I got this whole idea from a chapter called red scorpions but I'm not a fan of yellow and I've always loved orange on grey. so I thought id tske the red scorpions theme and swap out the yellow with orange. for the gold I was thinking along the lines of Balthazar gold with a silver highlight. this is the picture that caught my eye to go with this colour scheme.

I love grey and orange schemes, but I suggest you consider how you're going to go about painting the miniature. I do a lot of grey painting, and orange over grey can be tricky (many layers), so I have suggestions:

1.) Paint the helmets separate from the body. White or light grey primer if you can help it on the helmets.
2.) You don't really have the option of painting the shoulder guards/knee separately. Put down a solid orangey-brown before you try doing orange. Most oranges, including GW oranges, are transparent as hell. Trying to paint straight over grey/black or even white is a pain in the butt.
3.) Gold over grey can also be trouble. That orangey brown paint I mention above is the solution.

Color wise, it looks like you want GW Dawnstone (over black primer) for most of the grey, then just paint Nuln Oil in the recesses. It's what I do for my Tau. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/729225.page It also features a lot of orange, though it's painted over red for effect (a bit of glow) rather than a solid color.
I'm also messing about with orange on my Knights of Gryphonne thread https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/745329.page; Reaper makes some very nice orange paints - way better than GW, so I highly recommend them.
