I genuinely don't see the diplomacy in this. It's essentially a big 'feth you' to all the other players in the area.

The US envoy to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has accused the UN of damaging the prospects for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

You really can't shove the middle finger into the faces of the entire region and then complain that the UN is the one damaging peace prospects. This move will set back everything everyone has tried to do to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, and spark a renewed interest in support for Hamas and Islamic Jihad (among other groups) from groups that had been backing off for years.

The UN has been considered anti-Semitic for decades by pro-Israel partisans. To be fair, many members of the UN are anti-Semitic, and they do try to live up to the narrative.

This is the Middle East version of his Taiwan faux pas. At least he is uniting some people in a common cause.

I don't believe there was diplomacy in this. Most likely he made a slip of judgement or else had a Wormtongue style advisor feeding him just enough information to get in trouble.
