Running AM and in the process of painting an army. I love the way detachments work and would like to bring some non-AM detachments as support for my main Cadian army which will likely be a brigade. At first I was thinking grey knights but they are very points intensive, still a possibility though. For me this is about being able to break up my painting and adding stuff I think is cool to my overall army. Not necessarily what is most optimal.

There are a couple of things I was considering for a vanguard or outrider detachments:

Deathwatch: love the armor but I might loose my mind trying to organize kill squads.
Death Company: I like assault marines in general but these seem really potent and an effective deep strike force
Ravenwing: Like dark angels all around and would like to run bikes
Deathwing Knights: cool models
Grey knights/Paladins: would love to paint these guys
Imperial Knights: Also cool models

So there's some ideas I had. What are your thoughts on whether any of these are viable or offer some of your own suggestions. What do you think would work well as support for an AM army?

Are you looking to stay in the codex, or field a separate detachment of your above said elites?

How about a supreme command with 3 Grand Master Dread knights?

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

I would recommend you get either Assassins or Deathwatch.
Both are fluffy, and could easily be fielded as a Seperate detachment.

Genestealer Cult is another option you could go with.
