Just wondering if anyone has found a use for these guys. Currently with the Index as a Dark Angel I can only use the Company Ancient, with exception of Deathwing Ancient and Ravenwing Ancient. I have been debating to include them into my list more. +1 Leadership seems nice, I tend to run full 10 man squads. Also the +4 to shoot or attack depending on the phase might be useful. When playing Greenwing, I run Gunline setup. Right now I have about 5 Banner models sitting around.

I have gotten a lot of use out of him as codex space marines. I give him the relic banner and sit him and a captain next to 15 hellblasters. He is an auto take for me in all my lists that have any good shooting units in force. I also like using the Primaris one because for just a few more points he becomes just a little beefier.

I find they go nice with Plasma Cannon Dev's, when they die on an overheat, it's just another D3 free overloaded shots!

For Dark Angels, I think they are good in an Azrael Gunline with Devastators and Hellblasters. Your opponent will be trying to kill these guys, so if he does it's free shots. Maybe throw in an Apothecary too so he can sometimes resurrect a guy. I've been taking the Primaris Ancient in my Dark Angels lists already, and I think I'll keep him in there.

An ancient, chapter master and a bunch of hellblasters are a match made in heaven. Hellblasters are a high profile target that draw a lot of fire. This functions like insurance if they get focused early. The extra shots mean that overheating can possibly be advantageous for you, and even with rerolls hellblasters will overheat occasionally.
Case in point, I was charged turn 1 by some lychguard the other day. I killed a few on overwatch, but the followup shots from the overheating killed the rest of the lychguard. Sure I lost several hellblasters, but they would likely have been wiped out completely without those extra shots.
