So, just wondering what people think if I had one of the guys in my Tactical, Assault and Dev squads carring a banner for the squad. No impact on game, just toying with the idea. I never did like the backpack banner poles.

I think you'll end up with a lot of banners, but if you like the look then you should totally do it.

Banners...all day. Every day. I didn't do any on my armies because I suck at banners, but I do miss the 2nd ed. crazy "Shogun" approach to tons of banners all over the place.

Yeah, remember those days. Just wasn't a fan of the banners on backpacks. Although if I had a Tau army, I would put one on each warrior. I think they could pull the look off.

I like to have the back banners on all my Marine sergeants. It's cool looking! Not sure why you don't like them, but to each their own. If you want to put banners in your squads, I'd say do it, but make sure you can tell them apart from any Ancients you may have.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

I nearly always have back banners on sergeants... I didn't even realise it wasn't the done thing anymore until someone mentioned it!

Personally I'd think it would look nice. Adding to the whole "Medieval times in SPACE" vibe 40k has going on.

I personally only put backpack banners on some Sergeants because I always think of the awkward situation when he has to suddenly run into a doorway for cover.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.

They do add a lot of character, but the concept of using heraldry to announce your presence and identity when your own side is fully kitted out with advanced targeting and C3 kit, and your enemies will have had no possible opportunity to know, or indeed care, who you are does amuse me
