Hey there folks, I just saw these and they’re pretty awesome. https://spikeybits.com/2015/10/for-the-swarm-tyranids-army-on-parade.html
I’m assuming airbrush was used (unless their brush work is amazing!), but anyone got ideas about colours/paints/techniques? Especially for the skin and carapace - the claws are pretty simple.
Really puts me in mind of ghosts or wraiths - I’d love to try it out on a couple of models (maybe my stealthy units like Lictors?)

Thanks for any help you can give,
The_Vole

The link has a link to the artiest face book page

you could probably drop him a line.

seems really simple black and grey.

you could do 90% of it with black spray prime, dry brush up greys till you reach his color.

and yeah its probably all airbrushed.

As above, looks like an incredibly simple grey shading. Any number of ways to achieve it, and any number of paint combos.

Simplest way, and using brushes, would be to prime in Mechanicus Standard Grey spray, wash with Nuln oil, drybrush with Mech Standard then again with Administratum.

Wouldn't be quite as smooth blending as the example but it would be close colour wise and fast.

How do you think they chose which parts to be lighter and darker? I was going to suggest it was shadowing but you can see on some of the raveners and the hive guard that the carapace is often dark as well. Just random or is there some kind of pattern anyone can spot?

Alrighty, here are the replies I got:

Yes we painted that army. I will have to get back to you on the colors. The greens are P3 and the blues are Vallejo. We used an airbrush.

P3: Iosan Green, Necrotite Green, and Cygnus Yellow.
Vallejo: Artic Blue, Steel Blue, and Light Sea Blue

I could be wrong about the 1st blue. I dont buy Vallejo any more because the only local guy that sells it is a Jack Ass!

Chaos black, a dark german grey, and a light grey. I don’t remember exactly
