As you may have guessed from the title, my group and I are about to start playing a homebrew Horus Heresy Path to Glory campaign. We've all rolled for our units and thus far out of our six players (two people still need to roll) we have:
Emperors Children:
Emperor's Champion
Palatine Blade
Destroyer Squad

The scary list-Thousand Sons:
Delegatus
Sekhmet Terminators
Contemptor Mortis (likely Kheres)

World Eaters:
Chaplain
Vet Squad
Support Squad (likely plasma)

And last, me, with my Death Guard:
Consul w/ Early Crusade Honors
Deathshroud Terminators (woo!)
Heavy Support Squad

So, given this information, I have a question for you guys. What should I equip my Heavy squad with? Points are not a problem in Path to Glory, so tell me what you guys think would be the most impactful on the battlefield, and what would continue to be effective as the armies grow in size with the campaign.

“Victory is not an abstract concept, it is the equation that sits at the heart of strategy. Victory is the will to expend lives and munitions in attack, overmatching the defenders’reserves of manpower and ordnance. As long as my Iron Warriors are willing to pay any price in pursuit of victory, we shall never be defeated.” - The Primarch Perturabo, Master of the Iron Warriors

Sure, everyone starts out with an HQ that is rolled for randomly from a list of potential HQs, then, to start, we each get two rolls on either a retinue or vehicle table. This includes every possible 30k model that is under 100 GBP, not a named character and not a flyer. Points are not an issue in Path to Glory, you just give whatever you want. So, as an example, if you roll up a support squad, you can have any option without the worry of point cost, so flamers are the same as meltas. We will be playing random missions and scenarios (including Zone Mortalis) ranging from standard 1v1 to a six-man free for all. In the standard Path to Glory, you add more units every time you play, though we have changed this to every other time. You are, in the original, also supposed to gain 10 favor points (obtained through victories) to turn your Chaos Lord into a Daemon Prince. Instead, we shall have our Primarch show up upon reaching 10 favor points. You win the campaign when you win a game with your Daemon Prince/Primarch. Matches and opponents are rolled for randomly during the first week, then pairings are based on points, with no back to back battles between the same two players.

I hope that this has answered the question you've asked. If not, then I could explain a bit more.
