Greetings! I've been playing 40k a lot with a group of friends, and recently some of them started playing AOS. I've been looking at some of the info on the GW site, and I think I would like to go with the Grand Alliance: Death. That being said, I was hoping for something focused toward with more of a caster focus, and smaller troop count - as opposed to a horde of skaven or orks.

Any suggestions on things to look at or consider?

Hmm, well unfortunately my Death knowledge is lacking at the time being(only recently started getting into them) so i think Deathlords might be your cup of tea for a elite undead army?

You can start with them as a core then add Death mage units for more casting power and to beef up lowly troops so you won't have to go full skeleton horde.

That's the best advice I can give for the moment.

ok, so i dont play with points, so take this for what its worth... I would recommend using soulblight, Vampire heavy and add in morghasts and vargheists.

Flesh eaters can be pretty elite. You have ghouls as troops but they come back and big ghouls or bat ghouls or zombie dragons

Death right now is lacking but gw stated early next year is gonna be a focus on them

Thanks for the info guys! I am looking at possibly grabbing that Christmas sale box, but I am reading up a little more before I do anything else. Helps to know they are getting some love soon from GW.

Yeah, lots of enticing stuff in the near future.

My wallet will be sorely tested.

IF you dont mind playing whit failcast models and have 95% of the faction avalible in direct only, then shure, go with soulblight.

if you want a death army now and are fast to paint then go whit flesh courts as it is the only death faction that has its own battletome and only the bigg stuff is direct only.
personly i would wait with death until the whole grand alliance gets updated in 18.

some of us actually like finecast, and soulblight is more "elite" forces than FEC.

you'll want to convert blood knights out of something else unless you can afford their outrageous price cost

Indeed. The Caledor dragon princes and a death upgrade pack would do wonders.... while costing less than half the old knights.

Or you could just wait for Blood Knights in plastic?

Personally, I'd say go with Chaos Knights. They have the heft and bulk you'd expect for some kind of human rather than a weedy Elf. It's also easy enough to fill in/remove the Chaos stars...or even just leave them alone since humans who worship Chaos can be turned vampiric.

Another chip in for soulblight. They have some fun synergies among themselves and some cool faction abilities, plus can hit like a truck and can survive all but an entire army focusing them down.

413th Lucius Exterminaton Legion- 4,000pts

Kaptin KlawJaw's FreeBootahz!-1,500pts

The Royal Court of BlüdGrave- 2,000pts || Atalurnos Fleetbreaker's Akhelian Corps- 2500pts

Just back from holiday. I ended up getting the FEC getting started pack to get my feet wet, and the local shop threw in a Necro for $5.

I havent seen anything about a death update in 2018. Does someone have a link? I'd be highly interested to see what GW has in store for us!

Thanks again for all the feedback guys.

There is nothing concrete on anything other than nurgle's book on preorder this week.

Rumors say death in 2018 but they are just rumors. Rumors have said elves since 2016 and that hasn't happened yet so really no one knows.
