Hey there, as I wrap up painting my 2000 points of necrons I’m feeling of wanting to start another force and after tireless inner debate I am feeling Deathwatch with Primaris Marines aswell. Nice low model count army that I can start off small and really lay down some good painting and converting. Anyways I had a couple question that are basically the usual:

How are people setting up their kill teams?

What are some of the things that work and what doesn’t?

Primaris Marines: do they fit? What’s good and what’s not for them?

I haven’t played a power armor army in a few years so I’m rusty on em in 8th.

Anyhow, thanks and cheers!

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

Crossroad

1. Depending on the local meta, tournament, or game/faction you are playing. Kill Teams can be tailored to face whatever threat you may encounter, may it be super heavies or blob of orks/guards/gaunts.

2. Frag cannons always work. Razorback spam works. Watch Master re-rolls works. SIA works. Mixed Killed teams work (somewhat). Forgeworld stuff works well with Deathwatch. Sergeant and Blackshield works. Losing Marines does not work. Spamming Kill Team does not work. Drop pod does not work. Putting too many wargear on one Marine does not work. 3+ save does not work for an expensive troop choice.

3. Yes. Get Hellblasters. Intercessors if you want objective campers. Inceptors, Revivers and Aggressors are situational. Redemptor and Repulsor tank are okay.

4. Deathwatch is hard to play. Kinda like Grey Knights, with bit more dakka and less durability. Play regular mahreens if you want wider options and easier time.

I agree with fr3ddy's 2 and 4 and can't comment on primaris myself as I haven't tried them. Kill teams with transports, sergeants and a frag cannon or two can do a lot of work, but the transports (especially shooty transports ala razorback or corvus) are essential to keep those pricey one wound models from disappearing immediately. For most of your vets the classic bolter and chainsword loadout is currently arguably the best (for cost).

If you are playing with Power Level you're kind of screwed, but if you're using points and favor bodies and vehicles over weapons Deathwatch can get the job done.
