Catastrophic Situation: A Psychopaths Perspective

Not for the feint hearted. A rather chilling graphic tale.

Spoiler:
In a catastrophic situation. What no one tells you about is the core of the human race laid bare in all it's glory. It's debased levels people sink themselves to, or rise to meet. While others simply freeze in fear or are thrown into action. But if action, what form will it take. What depths will some go to survive or strive for their fellow man. Making the best decision and praying for luck or devolving into animals as they rush and trample.
But perhaps none of this applies to you. Maybe if such a situation arose only a detached mind would reign, cold and logical. One where little or no emotion remained, or felt. That calculates and assesses, while wholly bent upon it's goal.
A functioning Psychopath, with the ability to kill when the need arose. Stalking unseen amongst his sheep. A traveling salesman that was here one week and gone the next. To a new town, to a new county or across state. He flew when he could to save on backbreaking journeys, and so spent his down time either in the air or at the airport. Slipping out here and there to release the urge to kill, or on a rarity, to kill in the air to feel the rush of power of life and death that was the hunt. And after, simply bending back into his life as the urge slept once more.

The day had started out like most. A small meeting before lunch, then conferences in the afternoon. After which the laid on driver delivered him back to the airport well in time for his gate time. All this was not unusual. What was, was the urge. He could feel it willing him to take life.
He'd been ignoring it lately because of work constraints. But now the inner voices plots had become too tempting. Showing him how easy it would be when he got to his destination to begin the hunt. And so he let it ramble on and plan, soothing the need like a mild balsam as he sat there waiting the last few minutes until boarding his flight. His eyes scanning the seated and standing in the room. Knowing it would take little to push him to satisfy his desire. His gaze flickered to an angry man shouting over a apologetic stewardess with his wife trying to calm him down, as two kids ran by duelling each other with light sabres , who didn't even disturb a couple obviously on their honeymoon. Interwarapped and madly sucking face next to a slender pretty mature lady trying to ignore it all while reading her book, he couldn't quite catch the cover. He took all this in and more as he continued his circuit of the room until the plane doors opened, and at length, he filed onto the plane to take his seat next to a balding old timer in second class.

Take-off was uneventful. The plane rose to cruising altitude and pick it's heading. Food was served not long after, and everyone settled down for the log haul flight. Soon dozing or watching a film for a few hours to shorten the ride. But the salesman didn't. The urge was too strong for sleep. Though he kept his mask he wore to the world ever on. It denied him sleep. And so he busied himself with the mundane. Listening to music while working on his laptop. Here and there looking up at a Stewardess or to scan the adjoining seats. Earlier noticing the new couple still sucking face, though keeping it modest after a warning, and the angry man and his wife who sat in frosty silence. But the attractive woman from earlier he could not see. Causing a different urge to scold him for his missed chance, and so mildly disappointed, he settled with the distraction of his work for the next few hours until the flight was over. That was of course, until an explosion rocked the plane.

A hole ten feet wide tore from the cargo hauled as a shaped charge shot it's shrapnel into the port wing, where the engine sucked in the shredded debris before smoking into flames and ruin. Sending the plane lurching into a dive in which the pilots fought at the controls.
Inside the passenger compartment, the emergency lighting lit the jangling, snaking, oxygen masks and wailing people. The Stewardess's trying to calm them through the tears as they braced against the pitch while the screams and shuddering of the airframe went on for long minutes. The Pilots slowly fighting the planes nose as the flames slowly died from the engine and gradually faded out. But the ruptured airframe and damaged wing forced them lower, and it was only a matter of time before the plane met the ground.

Through all this the Salesman had put away his laptop. Splitting his time between watching the smoking engine and occasional flame, to the panicked people around him. Wide eyed and fearful. The man next to him beginning to annoy him with his screams. Seeming to be the main screamer culprit in his section as the man still fumbled with his safety strap in hysterical fear.
The Salesman's hand was like a viper. Chopping up and into the mans throat from his lap to crush frail cartilage. The man choking aloud and eying him in shock before he past out with a last gurgling choke that went unnoticed in the chaos and noise. And the Salesman clipped him into his seat to prevent the dead man from falling into the aisle as a Texan drawl of their Captain came over the tannoy. Quieting the screams as people strained to hear over the more hysterical.

'Ah, ladies and gentlemen. We have a bit of a situation... But don't you worry, folks. It's under control. Me and my, Co-pilot, are guna set you down nice and easy for you in about twenty minutes. But until then, buckle up and hold on to your britches. Cuz it's guna get bumpy.'

At them words the plane seemed to dive for the ground with more screams. The Salesman watching slightly amused through the window at the up rushing ground and flaking wing, thinking it was more exciting when the engine was on fire, until he spotted the small runway the Pilot had chosen for a landing. A private airstrip that housed maybe a dozen hangers, a tower and firehouse on the edge of the single runway. He saw all this as their plane took a pass and then banked round hard and lined up on the runway. The port wing dipping as the Pilots eased off their speed and the plane shuddered with violent rattles before there was a heavy thud as the landing gear made contact and the Pilots eased back before they came down heavy again with a crunch with the front strut gave out. Ploughing the nose hard into the tarmac, kinking the airframe as it slid along in a shower of sparks before losing their damaged wing as the abused plane flopped fully onto it's belly while it slid onto the grass. Halted a hundred yards later by a grove of trees that were surprisingly merciful, until the other engine exploded.

Inside the plane, the Salesman had survived the landing and explosion that had set fire to the starboard side. But instead of freeing himself from his seat. He sat transfixed. Watching as the frosty couple burned. Unable to free themselves the tangle of their seats. And they died jerking into obscene poses as their muscles and tendons cooked.
After their demise he looked to the front of the plane. Watching as people madly rushed for the exit. Screaming at the Stewardess there to open the door. Until it gave suddenly, and then the real stampede began.
Unbuckling his seat to this backdrop. He stepped over his dead friend to grab a hold against the pitch and began to move slowly forwards over and past the less unfortunate passengers that sat there contorted and burning or thrown around from the crash. He kept his briefcase in one hand, steadying his pace with the other as he tried to hunch away from the fumes. Passing over loosened seats and twisted people, and came upon the pretty lady from departures. Head bent forward and slumped to the side of the aisle having been overcome by the fumes that filled near filled the cabin. He was about to step on by when the woman looked up and he stopped as she smiled. But the Salesman didn't smile back. Instead he calmly bent over to pick up a fallen armrest and stood back up to stand over as her smile faded. Shock and fear now pouring from her wide eyes, until the first blow came. Again and again til her brains and hair matted the makeshift weapon. And he casually tossed it aside as he continued on to the exit.

A child's cry from nearby froze him in his tracks. Quickly he scanned the nearby seats to se the young girl crouching and hugging her legs on the floor. Red eyed and tearful staring back as her chin wobbled and she gave another sob. He stood there uncertain if she had heard or seen the murder before she abruptly rushed at him. Clamping both arms onto a leg and he grudgingly lifted her into his spare arm. Carrying her over to the door and out into the fresh air that caught in their lungs as they coughed away the smoke and saw a Sheriff appear through a plume of smoke through their streaming tears.

'Hey, we've got two more here!' Pulling the Salesman further away from the rising inferno behind before two EMT's ran over to check them over. Taking them to a nearby ambulance where other passenger milled or needed attention. He handed off the child and refused any treatment for himself, and turned back to the burning plane that had set fire to the trees. Watching as the Firemen lost their battle with the flames while the Sheriff strode over to his side.

'Anyone left alive in there?' He asked, but knowing the answer.

'No.' The Salesman answered flatly above the crackles and pops before the Sheriff turned to him to ask.

'That kid yours?'

'No.' He answered again, still not turning. And the Sheriff suddenly smiled.

'Man. Your a god damn hero, boy!' Slapping a hand to his shoulder. To which the Salesman replied flatly again as he continued to watch the flames. And the Sheriff shook his head, walking away to begin his report. Putting it down to shock as the Salesman eyed the cooking of his slaughtered sheep with a slow smile spreading across his features as he savoured the smell and a new twist to the hunt.

Happy Holidays, people. Safe travels.

Come into my web, said the spider to the fly.
Come rest your wings, and let us talk eye to eye.
For I am a spider, and you are the fly. Now that you are here, let us sit, and say hi.
But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.
For I am the spider, and you are the fly. How else could it have gone, between one such as you, and one such as I.
