Apparently the writers of this sequel felt her character's arc was complete. I tend to agree, as this sequel looks to be going balls out on the kind of thing her character was vehemently against.

The movie will be directed by Stefano Sollima, an italian who is specialized in those kind of stories, involving local gangsters. It will be a great opportunity for him, in Italy is still basically a TV Movies director. Not really excited about his presence but I loved Sicario and I'll certainly watch the sequel.

If they use the same soundtrack it will be worth watching on that alone.

Looks like it will be Thanos v. The Collector in the end!
Also , “Day of the Soldado” instead of just “Soldado”

The new trailer looks good, really can’t wait to see this one. Still remember watching the first one with the bodies stored in the house walls and thought damn this film isn’t going to be a happy one lol.

The part that stuck with me were the lines from Jeffrey Donovan(aka Michael Westen in this thread) while driving through Ciudad Juarez about how the cartels are geniuses in how they publicly display executed victims, and whether they are guilty are not it doesn't matter. It really displays how the viciousness of the cartels can absolutely paralyze the communities they operate in.

They just busted an auto shop that was a front for cartel drug distribution here. Reality is worse.

I'll be the lone voice saying 'meh'. I was really pumped to see Sicario, it is my kind of movie. And watching the movie I loved it, right up until the very end, when the final stage of the plan plays out.
Spoiler:
After they leave the tunnels, and del Toro heads off on his own, and it turns out all that planning and work was done just so he could sneak on to a cartel leader's armed compound and kill everyone by himself. That was it. After slowly teasing out the team's plan and working so hard to give us really grounded, fairly believable action, it ended with one guy shooting a whole bunch of idiot guards one by one like it was an 80s action movies starring someone famous for having muscles.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

So I finally saw this. I still think I enjoy the first one better, but I also liked this one alot.
There were a couple twists at the end that I didn’t expect, and I generally enjoyed the new characters introduced. I was worried that the abscence of Emily Blunts character would take the “soul” from this movie and it would just become a shoot em up, but the young girl used as a pawn by Graver was excellent. The way she went from defiant cartel leaders daughter, to frightened captive, to a captive perceiving things that aren’t what they seem, to eventually caring and sympathizing for her erstwhile captor/guardian was very well done. Great bit of acting from such a young girl.
The subplot of the kid getting groomed to be a cartel trafficker was great too, and looks like he may have a spot in Sicario 3, unless Alejandro was going to kill him.
