So my friends dragged me into start playing, decided for Raptors and Lias Issodon after reading some lore. So far i managed to build this,

HQ
Lias Issodon (Bought some bits and copied a really nice kitbash i found)
Lieutenant (with bolter and power fist build from spare parts)

Troops
2 Scout Snipers, 1 scouts and Storm (Got lucky and fund them for 25% of compared to GW)

Elites
1 Sterngourd, (Budget sterngourd with some nice shoulders and custom bolters)
2 Venerable Dreadnoughts (One is a regular Dreadnought i decorated with spare parts for the Venerable because i wanted a Venerable with missiles)

Heavy
1 Devastator Plasma, 1 Devastator Missiles (Got the weapons from some once spare bits and put them on a 10 man squad with some other bits for decoration)

The friends i have played against the most have a Nids with losts of big monster and a Tau with lots of suits. Thank the emperor for Lias and his Lieutenant as statistically manages to mostly roll 1s. Tried asking in a GW store but the guys there are always trying to sell me the most expensive stuff they got = P So what to do next?

Raptors are very strong. Lias Issodon is a good characters.

You want to pick 3 squads to go with him. Stern guard are good, devastators are good. I would take a total of 30 infantry to go with Lias Issodon in 3 squads of 10 sternguard or devastators.

Lieutenant is good. Venerable dreadnoughts are good at shooting.

Is it worth filling out the devastators, wouldnt it be better to take another for the points?

Got myself a starter sett for Chrismas, 1 terminator captain, 1 venerable dreadnought and 10 marines. First thought put a storm shield on the captain instead of the storm bolter, put a chaplin head and some other stuff on the venerable for a dreadnought chaplin, and make a some more sternguard and another devastator squad of the 10 man?

If you want really good advice on running Raptors check out Reecius from Frontline Gaming. He runs them very successfully.

Imo yes you should totally fill out the Devastators, marines are cheap enough and you want to protect those weapons and have some meat on the squad.

Sternguard are neat but they don't average as much damage as you might think, Imo you want them for their bolters and Stratagem, but Devs can put out more damage overall. Grav Cannons are optimal, I think. 10 Sternguard and 20 Devs seems best for Lias.
