Is it possible to run the dark vengence chaos lord with a bolt pistol? It seems allowed by the datasheet but I think the model only comes with a plasma pistol and as it is a non-standard model swapping the plasma pistol for a boltpistol seems difficult? Anyone have any luck with this?

Not done it, but wouldn't be difficult at all, you need a bolt pistol in a left hand, you wouldn't swap the gun, but the full hand, wouldn't be difficult, knife and glue is all that's needed

From Endor to Hoth, Ripley to Spock, I'll get what you want but there's Gunna be a cost

I was gonna say the same thing. I'd be curious why you'd want a bolt pistol over plasma pistol.

Its cheaper for points and my list lands at 2000. What models bolt pistol and what hand do you use, anyone have a picture? From looking at ebay most models hold pistol in their Right hand? Where do you actually make the cut (I would guess you are only cutting the hand, which could not be a straight cut based on the shape of the forearm guard).

I am nervous I am going to butcher my model.

I would use the bolt pistol from a raptor sprue. #25.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Here's a job I did on a deathwatch conversion, I just used a saw to cut the bits. The pistol is from the raptor set, the only chaos sprue I had lying around with a left handed Bolt pistol.

Haha, I happened to have a sprue laying next to me. Plus I really like the kit. Lots of cool looking weapons.

You don't even need to cut the hand away, just cut the gun. With precise enough cuts you can leave the hand entirely intact (thereby not risking any damage to the forearm/wrist detailin). Similarly cut the hand off of whatever bolt pistol you want to use, doesn't matter if it;s right or left then. You'd have to be seriously inaccurate with your cuts to butcher this weapon swap.

Cutting hand is however less likely to damage things and as new pistol already has hand less cutting

Yeah a hand cut is a straight simple single cut. That not mean any having to cut round weapons. Just one clean straight cut.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Ok, you clearly after some guidance, I've dug around in my bitzbox for a starter kit model like kranon with fixed pose, and a weapon that doesn't match, here it's a dark angles terminator and a chaos warrior axe.

What you now want to do is cut straight across the wrist, I use a Stanley knife but any modeling knife or saw will do the trick

With these two clean square cuts it's littrally a case of lining the two parts up and glueing them

Now the raptor left hand bolt pistol looks like it would work perfectly, try eBay or somewhere like bitsandkits for that part, reason I've picked two parts I did is there unlikely, shouldn't be together to try and demonstrate that it's possible with these then it'll be nice and easy swapping a csm hand for a csm hand

Hope this helps you dude

That's fine if you just need to do a straight cut at the wrist, but the DV Chaos Lord has a detailed wrist guard that I think the OP is trying to avoid ruining. In which case, cutting off the plasma pistol alone and then replacing it with a bolt pistol from which the hand has been removed is the better option and also really not at all difficult. The risk of damage to anything you want to keep should really be minimal so long as you;re using a sharp hobby knife and have a modicum of control when using it.
