Hi there, Happy New Year to everyone.

I managed to cobble together a full Company of Primaris and was looking around for an official Chapter to paint them up as. The Angels all lose a massive amount of flavour if you go pure Primaris, so I settled on the Castellans. The fluff is they've been set to guard the Nachmund Gauntlet against Renegade Knights and Heavy Armour. The question is, how to represent this doctrine of taking on heavy armour using the limited options available to Primaris?

I quite like this niche role for an Ultramarine successor and the fact that they have a defined and named enemy rather than a formless chaos horde.

Grab several predators (especially of quadlas variety as primaris really lack long range AT), Vindicator Laser Destroyers (as their look really fits primaris), plus a few other rhino-based support vehicles (like vindicators or razorbacks, to taste), then pretend they are crewed by primaris. That's it, it's really only option you have till primaris get some more releases or less incompetent rules writer...

Repulsers with LCs, Hellblasters, The jump guys with plasma, the dread. If you want to go pure primaris, those seem to be the AV options, and of them only the hellblasters are on the “efficient” scale. Branching out into other vehicles does gives you a lot more options.

You should be able to cram enough AV into a normal list to fit the theme. You will end up relying on your basic intercessor troop picks for anti-infantry work, but that’s not terrible.

Obviously with a tight theme and restricting your own options, you are going to have an uphill battle vs. more competitive lists. But on a more casual FGLS table, you should be able to do fine.

From a fluffy list building POV, you’d have the anti-troop units there to blow the screens away from the hard targets. Repulsors would then zoom in, dropping off either hellblasters to dismantle them with close range, precision overcharged plasma, or aggressors to finish clearing the chaff away, and then ripping the tanks/knights apart with their fists.

Get one of these things:

Looks pretty heavy to me. Unfortunately the price is similarly heavy. If you really want to stress the heavy armour aspect of your guys (and stress you have way too much disposable income) FW even sells them in convenient bundles of three for a mere 600 and 60 Great British Pounds!
The Repulsor and Astraeus are the only heavy armour the Primaris have, so you are stuck using that unless you want to pretend Land Raiders are also crewed by Primaris.

It also looks genuinely like a Thundercats toy.

I'm pretty much set on pure Primaris cos I'm very much a fluff bunny. I guess it'll be various flavour of plasma for my anti tank coupled with the lascannons from repulsors. I figure I'll need two Repulsors to be any way competitive. Incidentally, I love the idea of a repulsor unloading a squad of Hellblasters so they can point-blank a Renegade Knight! Tiiiimbeeeeerrrrrrr!

Also, from a background perspective, the idea of Kaligius setting himself up as a Tyrant King at the head of his household Knights, is very evocative. He seems like a nice antagonist to spin a narrative around. I'm imagining a corsair kingdom controlled by a ruling caste of Renegade nobility looking down from their battle suits.

Can you imagine the Castellans spending the first few months of their posting hammering the tar out of pirate fleets before coming across one of the Chaos Knights?
