Another year has rolled in and everyone is making resolutions. What are your 2018 hobby resolution?

I have set a lofty goal for myself this year.

1. Finish painting all of my terrain
2. Finish painting my AdMech
3. Finish building/painting the Primaris additions for my Ultramarines as well as Big Bobby G.

I have mine here: http://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2018/01/random-2018-of-new-years-and-new.html

I tend to break mine down into Purchases, Painting and Modelling, Playing, and Rules Writing. They are pretty scaled back this year, as I expect "Real Life" problems for most of 2018. The Painting and Modelling section is particularly modest.

Last year, I completed 14 of 17 resolutions so I hope i can at least repeat that this year.

those are awesome oni, I love admech especially

my only "hard" resolution is to finish my ork army. I mainly have my lootas, grots and nobs left. It would help if I stopped buying ork models though lol

Going to finish my oop Rogue Trader Eldar army. Once that is done I would only have conversions and odds and ends left.

Going to keep it simple this year:

Finish painting one army per quarter (army defined as a field-able force of typical size, not always every model for a given faction)
Assemble at least one box of models per month
Avoid starting into any new game systems, excepting Legion due to Star Wars

Probably do-able...probably.

A few - My Ferrari themed Ork Army, Da Skooderia, WILL get finished and hit the table.

We WILL do some 40k in 1/72

We will explore a few other factions of the Apocalypse: Earth universe- The League of European Nations and the Asian Communist Federation are first on the list

Upcycle some old terrain to a better standard

Keep trying to improve P&M skills as much as possible, whether that's colour theory, better materials, whatever

1. Finish my Talons of the Emperor force

2. Play at least 50 games of 40K (basically one a week, with some tournaments making up for slack weeks)

3. Organize some sort of mini-campaign or narrative event.

No idea in terms of purchases. I may get some of the Forge World Custodes units for 30K - but only if I start getting games of it regularly. Otherwise only have a few odd additions to existing armies (Fire Raptor, Xiphon) planned so far.

Oh yes!

I will not buy new miniatures in 2018 until all my current projects are finished. EXCEPTION: If 40k Orks get new must have units, or Adeptus Titanicus and Epic returns... that would excuse purchase(s).

WARHAMMER 40k
- Orks (10 Stormboyz)
- Salamanders (9 Plus Base entire army)
- Tau (6 Shielded Missile Drones)

BATTLETECH:
- Mechs (26)

DROPZONE COMMANDER:
- Resistance Starter set
- Fliers for every faction
- Terrain (monorail)

BOLT ACTION:
- American (Howitzer and Crew, Sherman)

SPACE HULK:
- All Blood Angles (15)
- All Genestealers (22) and Broodlord (1)

BLOOD BOWL:
- Plastic Humans (12)
- Plastic Orks (12)
- Several OOP Starplayers
- Metal Orks

BLACK POWDER:
- American Civil War (196 both sides)
- Waterloo (50 Brits, 25 Hanovarians, Gun and 4 Crew)

ANCIENTS:
- Early Imperial Romans (184)

Hobby resolutions:
- The fantastic but BAD computer games addiction: every 2 hours of computer gaming MUST have at least 1 hour of painting / modelling hobby time.
- I may have to make a rule specific to painting: assemb
- Enough already! FINISH that Black Templar army to a good standard to at least 3000 points... no more block painted stuff... DETAILED.
- Finish at least one Bolt Action Army to a good standard (About 4 full squads painted up, the specialist stuff painted MMG, MM, the one of each vehicle type).
- Work through my Robotech RPG tactics models standard ones and otherwise. At least one unit of each type.
I really should stop here, that should take a year on it's own.
All the other "armies in waiting" may have to be treated as "reward" items.

complete converting and painting 2000pts of Inquisition
speed paint all 2500pts of built GSC
make a really terrain dense necromunda board.

I'd also like to complete our Inquisitor campaign, maybe start a long running 40k campaign if BFG is ever released.

Stop buying new armies to paint, unless it's plastic Sisters of Battle, in which case, my resolution is to build a Sisters of Battle army.

Get my Tau up to 2000 points of decent composition rather than the dog's breakfast I've currently got.

Paint up the contents of both Dark Imperium boxes I bought (currently working on this one)

Paint my Forge World Outrider MkIV marine bikers and assault marines.

My goal last year was to paint as much as my 40K armies as possible, and not buy any more until I had my current stock finished.

This year, my goal is to finish painting all the 40K armies I do have. Barring collecting any new models, I feel it is a more than reasonable goal.

My other hobby is story-writing; my goal there is get my latest novel into the hands of a professonal publisher (current draft needs some touch upj.

I definitely want to finish up some things and probably focus less on painting and more on playing (including some more videogame time). My painting priorities currently are:

- Finish up my Inquisition with some more DW vets and a Grey Knight SCD.
- Paint up some Trollblood heavies for both the Dhunia and Northkin theme along with some Fennblades for Band of Heroes.

Some side projects I'd like to fit in with the big stuff include:
- Finish up some minor Infinity stuff.
- Expand my DCU Justice League roster a bit.
- Maybe some Batman stuff if 2nd edition finds its footing
- Paint up Ironskull's Boyz
- Get my Malifaux Guild up to date
- Replace my Guild Ball Masons with the Kick Off plastics
- Paint up a Sea King

Of course, what I can never count on is what new shinies draw my eye. Likely some of this will get sidetracked with:
- I want to build a Riot Grrls list for my Nomads; Tunguska is also likely to derail my plans.
- Khador has a Man O War theme coming that I'm excited for.
- More stuff for the Inquisition, DW Codex, Sisters (hah) or other Inquisitor stuff.

This Is Where the Fish Lives

I have a few that I hope to keep:

1. Finish my USMC army for Bolt Action. I have an M5 Stuart done and a couple of marines... and that's it! I have a full squad assembled and ready for paint, so I'll start there and then move on to the rest.
2. Start and then finish my Soviet army for Bolt Action. I got the starter army box for Christmas but I won't start it until my marines are done.
3. Finish my British North Africa army for FoW. It's mostly done, I just have some infantry stands and gun crews to paint, but I'd really like to get it 100% done.
4. Finish my late war British army for FoW. This is only in the very beginning stages, but I plan on getting it on the table before long!

My non-gaming hobby resolution pretty much one thing and that is to complete the the numerous models I have in various stages of progress. The following models are on my desk right now (all 1/35 scale):
  • Renault FT (riveted turret) from Meng is painted with a base coat
  • Mk.I female tank from Takom that is almost completely assembled save for the machine gun sponsons
  • SU-18 (an interwar Soviet self-propelled gun based on the T-18) that's assembled, save the tracks, and ready for primer
  • ISU-152 from Tamiya that is painted and has decals on it, ready for weathering.
  • M3 Lee from Takom that I started last night thanks to a bout of insomnia so it's only partially assembled

  • I would consider it a successful year if I can get all of these done this year and I feel like I can!

Mine is to clear the detritus of 30 years of gaming.

Not to get rid of ALL the stuff, just a good chunk of it. I'll keep the models that I like and get rid of the rest.
Whether this means selling, giving away, binning or smelting down is irrelevant (I have a crucible and smelting setup - I used to bronze cast).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

    1) Finish my Dark Angels. I think this should be a manageable goal.

2 I have one Ghost Ark that still needs to be built/painted. I want to magnetize it as well. Also doable this year.

3)Start painting some of my Fantasy stuff that is sitting in my house. I'm unsure if I want to rebase it for AoS or keep em on the square bases. One thought was perhaps to redo everything on round bases but find some sort of movement trays that basically let you stick round bases into square blocks. I don't expect to get this done, but if I start this it would be great.

    4) If by some miracle I finish all that, I want to start building a board that could work for both 40k and fantasy. I'm thinking a desert/woodland base with some ruins.

5)Perhaps look at getting some Middle Earth stuff. The game looks fun and accessible, but I need to finish all the other stuff first.

    Tomb Kings

    Painting priority in order:
    Malifaux Neverborn
    Malifaux Gremlins
    Infinity Haqqislam
Assorted Malifaux (odd crews, LE models)
    Infinity Yu Jing

I have a lot of the above, so just listing them in the priority I want to get them done.

Also, sell my Infinity Tohaa and 40k Chaos. I could use the money on other stuff.

I posted my hobby goals for the year in my P&M blog, but in a nutshell, here are a few:
-Paint more models than I buy. I'm going to try to resist buying all the new shinies unless they are truly special, although I do have a wishlist of models I want to add to my armies. Hopefully GW does some new releases that aren't armies I play.
-Finish making a set of proper bits boxes. This will make kitbashing so much easier when I don't have to look through all of my kit boxes to find that one unused thunder hammer (or other weapon).
-Get more vehicles painted. Last year I only painted one vehicle (a Tau Hammerhead) so this year I need to get more of my motor pool painted. This goal isn't in my blog, but it's something I'd like to do.
-Finish painting all of my partially painted stuff. I've got a couple of Dark Angels flyers, some Bloodletters, a few Tau models, a Land Raider (that I've messed up with thick paint but could maybe fix, at least get to low tabletop standard), and some other models that I've gotten started but are only partially complete as of now. I need to go ahead and finish these things.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
    Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

    Great thread!

    Just the usual big three:

    1. Paint more than I painted this year (73 minis and vehicles)
    2. Get more games in for our ongoing 40k campaign
    3. Write up more of the campaign games in the battle reports forum (maybe even get them up to date with the campaign!)
