Hey everyone!
I got back into 40k a couple of months ago and started working on a Thousand sons army. It is my first "real" army, since i only painted a couple of models before i quit many years ago. I am going with the classic color-scheme.
I have almost finished work on my first Hellbrute, but the head is still meh.
Before starting the model i looked for pictures online and liked one where the head was "glowing" blue-ish. So i tried to paint it that way before assembly.
Sadly that didn't work out as i wanted it to and now it is just missing contrast and looks bland. So i want to redo the head with another concept.

I would really love the head to pop, so probably a different color from the one's I used on the rest of the model would achieve that?
The problem is I'm not really good with colors, so I don't know which one would fit and which would look bad. So maybe you can help me out with suggestions on what colors to use on the head to make it pop but not "break" the mini.

Here are some pictures (sorry for the quality i dont have a good photo-setup yet):

So far he is painted in:
-Thousand Sons Blue / Ahriman Blue / Baharoth Blue for the blue armor.
- Averland Sunset / Yriel yellow for the yellow.
- Retributor Gold / Stormhost Silver / leadbelcher for the metal (maybe also some liberator gold i dont remember)
- Rakarth Flesh / Screaming Skull for the flesh
- A mix of celestia and russ grey for the cables.
And washes for shades and mixes of the above with white scar to create some highlight colors.

In case that it might be relevant (for reusing an already appearing color or something) the infantryman is painted in:
- Mix of Vallejo "German Grey" and Caledor Sky for the coat
- weird mixes of brown for the leather i dont remember
- Evil sunz scarlet for the red on the armor.

I hope you can help me out I really like how it looks so far, but that head just doesnt work....
Thanks for the help,
coru

Thanks!
I dont think i could make the head look good when painting it golden :/ I always feel its very hard to do good highlights with metalic colors. So I'd prefer a non metallic color.

Same pale colour as the other fleshy bits should work

It’s very nicely done

Well the opposite of blue would be orange

but that would look weird.

id say go flesh and give him some warp flavored eyes.

I'm going to echo the suggestions for flesh color.

Also, maybe you could look into using a micron pen to sharpen up the stripes on the front plate. I think that would really make it pop.

Looks great D00d!

Hell, at that you could even use painter's tape to just continue with the full color you have going on

Thanks a lot everyone!
Then ill go with the flesh shade and glowing warp eyes Sounds good!

Regarding the front plate: That sadly isnt the painting. I tried some "sculpting" (if you can call it this... looking at how it turned out ). I actually made those stripes with greenstuff, because i didnt like how it looked if you just painted them on. Wanted it to look more 3D like on the rubric heads.
Sadly i didnt get them to be as clean as i wanted to :/ So they are looking a little ugly now.
You cant see it from further away, it still sucks though.
Lessons learned by trying that

edit: looking at it again, i could go over those highlights there, though. These still are not very clean, you are right! That might make it look a lot better aswell.

agree on sculpting the stripes, looks better sculpted than painted - though does need to be somewhat sharper - is it worth looking at something like a dremel to sharpen them up a bit?

Oh. Well then I guess I apologize

If you ever go that route again I suggest plasticard strips. Im not sure what kinds of stores you have there, but even the most mainstream hobby stores in the US sell them.

Thought occurs on the stripes, add a bit of corrosion to the upper and lower edges, won't need much but its 'enough' to remove the need for flat edges

mhhh. i dont have one and dont really know how to use one. so i doubt something this delicate would come out well

thats a cool idea. i think i'll try that at some point. just have to be careful to not add too much so the initial "clean" pattern gets lost.

thanks so much for your suggestions and help everyone!
