Can you take Grey Knights as your chapter for the generic SM models from IA Forces of the Adeptus Astartes? The index does have a section dedicated to specific Grey Knight models but is it meant to represent that these are the only GK models available to GK or that they are unique to GKs?

Does it say (or even imply) anywhere in Codex: SM, Codex: GK, or the Index Astartes that GK is a valid replacement for <Chapter> in any context at all?

I'm fairly certain there is never any indication that <Chapter> can be replaced by anything other than your own homebrew words, or one of the Chapters listed in Codex: SM.

I'd wondered this myself a while back. I had thought about putting a Sicaran in my Deathwatch Army, but I'm not about to spend that kind of money on a FW book just to find out I can't.

Fortunately, I can with my other chapters.

Where is the idea that <Chapter> has any ability to be replaced by anything from Deathwatch or Grey Knights at all?

That's like asking if I can replace <Chapter> with Ordo or with Adepta Sororitas or with Cadia.

No, it's not, dude. Because [Chapter] can be replaced with 'Deathwatch' for Primaris Apothecaries, Reivers, and Librarians to my knowledge. Unless that's been FAQ'd.

And that's specifically called out somewhere, just like how it's specifically called out that even in the Imperial Guard codex, Techmarines can have the <Forge World> instead of <Regiment> Keyword. Does that mean that Baneblades can have the <Forge World> keyword too?

No.

The entries in IA state <chapter> on the data sheets. "<chapter>" can be any Adeptus Astartes chapter. GKs are a chapter (I can't speak to DW). Therefore, GK is an acceptable fill in for <chapter>.
The question is does IA consider GK as a chapter per GW or not?

From the INDEX: FORCES OF THE ADEPTUS ASTARTES FAQ:

Q: Are there any restrictions on which Chapter I can choose when replacing the <Chapter> Faction keyword on datasheets within this book?
A: Yes. You cannot choose for any of these units to be from the Legion of the Damned or Grey Knights Chapters. They can be from any other Chapter though, including Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Deathwatch.

Thanks for the FAQ Beast, it seems Deathwatch is a <Chapter> but Grey Knights aren't.

Weird logic, but at least it's clarified!

EDIT: And GW does not consider GK a chapter. Otherwise, you could take Centurions (or a Captain or a Stormhawk Interceptor) in a GK detachment, have it still count as a pure GK detachment, which is patently false.
