How do?

So this is one that I postulated in another thread. Specifically, it's intended as a multi-player, mid-campaign variety game. One to be trotted out when regular punch ups are beginning to flag.

It's intended to be a Zone Mortalis setting - but to be honest any similar tiles or board would do. What's important is that it has walls, and doors.

Background wise, it's a sort-of gameshow type affair, where the up and coming youths can show their mettle in an arena. For players, it can be used as a way to squeeze some extra XP into their youngest members, as well as competed for Fabulous Prizes (and possibly additional Rep).

It's a race to the centre of the board, where some kind of objective awaits (maybe just a big red button, possibly something to be overcome). Each competing Gang can enter a fixed number of Juves, and if they're feeling saucy, less than that number.

To make things interesting, each player is given some kind of 'red button' cards - which can be expended during the game to do things such as open or lock doors, trigger booby traps (could be as simple as unleashing critters into the arena) etc. Those are intended to bring extra strategy, and prevent the game being a glorified Movement phase!

Standard XP scoring of course, bonus for the winning Juves, Leader type bonus for the Juve that hits the button/takes down the target.

In my mind, I think I'd limit the scenario to four players - if there's more in your group, just run it multiple times.

Floating Initiative to keep it interesting. Each player rolls a D6, re-roll ties. Go from highest number to lowest. This is rolled for each and every Game Turn, with alternating activation (everyone moves, then everyone shoots, then everyone fights?). This prevents permanent seizing of initiative, and I feel adds to the feel of it being a race - as the players close in on the objective (which should be centrally accessible, so choose your tiles carefully!), do they go all out for speed, or play a more cautious game, lurking around to try to shoot out the other competitors?

Right, that's the bare bones of my pondering sketched out for you. The thread is now open for comment, feedback and quite possibly banter!

Sounds fun. On a mechanical level the alternating actions may be a bit weird with the new double actions thing. Might be better off just keeping the normal activation rules.

Ooh. If you want more gubbinz to keep it interesting, put crates around with weapon upgrades. Single shot plasma pistols or something

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The fact that it's called the Juve Cube is good enough reason to do it IMO.

I also thought of another 'game' for the Underhive, basically Capture the flag. You'd need two sets of Underhive so you have two box bottoms, as they represent the 'bases' for each team. Then you make a roughly symmetrical board using the rest of the tiles, and each team has to get to the opposing base and back to score.

Make them carry the flag like a loot crate - that way you can try and make them drop it, take it back, etc.

So what sort of ‘Red Button’ tricks do you think would work?

Current thoughts are the classic open/close doors and vents. Obvious is to open the path for your own, but also to attempt to trap others, or send them the long way round.

Traps wise? Mines/Bombs of some type seem a laff, as would unleashing Underhive Rats or Rippers. Nothing too dangerous, as it’s intended more to slow down the opposition rather than outright threaten them?

And yes, I am rather proud of the scenario name. Is my Dredd Fandom showing?

Another Dredd title but without a clear idea? Aggro-Dome. In 2000AD (arguably the primogenitor of the Hive Cities), they were enclosed domes where the citizens could work out their aggression. Of course, there’s not much Law in the Underhive, so it really is just a name at the moment!

Plus, I really like the idea of Prestige Games - Ones where even a relatively new gang can carve out a rep without literally risking life and limb.

Juve Cuver, Aggro-Dome and Capture The Flag can all be adapted to such an end. Entertainment for the Underhive masses, and a break from the norm for our players.

An idea from old Quake deathmatch levels ...

Have a small room with a switch that opens a pit in the floor, potentially dropping enemy gangers into toxic waste.

Have another, smaller, room with a switch that drops a 100-tonne weight onto anyone in the first switch room.

Have the "Red button" re-arrange the map tiles.
