For example with Bloodletters with a demonic icon: If you lose a model, roll morale, get a 1 and then get new demons to bolster your squad, do these new bloodletters need to be set aside pre-game from a strategic reserve pool or points/models similar to summoning?

Daemonic Icon: If you roll a 1 when taking a Morale test for a unit with any Daemonic Icons, reality blinks and the
daemonic horde is bolstered. No models flee and D6 slain Bloodletters are instead added to the unit.

I don't think they do, but I have no idea for sure. I'm playing my first KDK game ever tonight.

Thanks.

No, you can't ever add new models. You can only replace slain ones.

If you lose 1 Bloodletter, then roll a 6 for the amount added, you can only add one because it explicitly says "slain" models are added. Replacing slain models to an existing unit don't require reinforcement points. Creating new units is what needs the points.

Adding models to units doesn't cost reinforcement points, but adding new units of models does. Things like Poxwalkers, Demonic blinking, and Tervigons returning slain Termagants to a unit are all examples of the former, and don't cost reinforcement points. Things like Magnus turning a character into a Chaos Spawn, Chaos summoning new units of daemons, or Tervigons spawning a new unit of Termagants, are all examples of the latter, and do cost reinforcement points.

If something is outside of these standard rules (such as Tyranid Spore Mines being created by Biovores), the unit's entry will specify it.

Also remember models that run away from failed morale checks are not slain. So if you have a 10 man unit and lose 1 to morale the most amount of models you can return is now 8. (Cause 9 casualties would wipe the unit)

Ah.. I was reading it like the poxwalker rule that could exceed the starting limit. Thanks for the replies.

Followup: Daemonic Icon for Horrors - if you have, say, a unit of 10 pink horrors, 5 died and were replaced by blue horrors (and subsequently by brimstone horrors), can you still bring back the 5 previously slain pink horrors, even though there are blue/brimstone horrors that replaced them?

Yes.

So here is an interesting thing I just thought up. Let's say I take the following

10 horrors , 2 blues and 2 brime atone pairs for one split.
Now let's say I get shot at, take say 5 wounds. Can I then slow role save, say fail the first roll. Pop a pink into a blue, pop the blues into brimstone then pop the brims, I just took 5 wounds and only lost 1 pink. Then let's say I roll moral and get a blink and no matter what I bring back 1 pink. Can I then do the same thing again? I only payed for 2 blues and 2 brims so that trick only works the first time, but how do blues and brims come back?

To many unpainted models to count.

You can do this, but you will only get the 1 pink back. You can't magic up new pinks, it's only to what you started with, and also keep in mind that any pinks that flee can't be brought back.

Also keep in mind you need to pay points for each Blue and Brimstone horror you create if you are playing Matched Play. While you can slow roll out all the Damage it could become quite costly over the course of the game.

Could make for a decent distraction unit though
